Summary

Brandon Ellrich is a Missouri-based freelance writer who shares personal aspects of his life, including his sexual orientation, hobbies, and career, through his diverse writings on Medium, which range from poetry and fiction to self-improvement and Medium-focused articles.

Abstract

Brandon Ellrich, a resident of Missouri, introduces himself as a newly minted freelance writer who has recently embarked on a writing career. His writings are a reflection of his personality and life experiences, often intertwining elements of his own character into his fictional stories and poetry. Ellrich's work is varied, covering topics from the deeply personal to lighthearted and statistical aspects of his life. He is open about his single status, his sexual orientation as a gay man, and his interests which include tennis, pickleball, and playing musical instruments. Ellrich also has a talent for communicating in American Sign Language and considers himself a "cat whisperer" to his two cats, Zak and Zoe. He rejects the notion of confining himself to a specific niche, preferring to explore a wide range of subjects in his writing. One of his popular posts provides insights into the etiquette of interacting with Medium writers.

Opinions

  • Ellrich believes that changing location does not necessarily alleviate feelings of loneliness or depression, as one carries their inner self wherever they go.
  • He humorously notes that the best time to find a special someone is when you're not actively looking, suggesting a serendipitous approach to romance.
  • Ellrich does not consider himself very attractive, implying that any hint of arrogance in his writing is likely to be sarcastic.
  • He values reader engagement and encourages readers to interact with his posts through claps, comments, and follows, which he sees as a way to foster a better connection with his audience.
  • Ellrich challenges the advice of Medium "experts" who recommend writers to have a niche, as he prefers to write on a diverse range of topics.

Before you continue, please be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. Why? Read View vs. Reads on Medium.

If you read anything that I write, you will find me there. Inside my fictional tales, aspects of my own personality are found within the characters. My poetry is sometimes deeply personal, though not always obvious. Even the humorous ones are hiding parts of my life, my family, or traumas that I’ve experienced.

So, if you want to read something deep and tragic, read Mouse Without Tale

Maybe that’s not what you want to find out. Perhaps you want to know the lighter side, what’s on the surface, the statistical information: where do you live, what do you do for a living, are you married, what are your hobbies? etc.

I live in Missouri–misery, as some refer to it. I’ve lived here my entire life, and sometimes that is a regret. Overall, I think it’s an excellent place to live. I have felt miserable, at times, but that has not been due to my logistical environment. If you are lonely, depressed, or unhappy, these feelings may be only temporarily assuaged by a change in location. No matter where you go, you take yourself with you.

I’ve had several jobs and a few career changes, but right now I am working as a freelance writer. I just began this venture a couple of weeks ago and it’s going well. My first article, published on calmingdog.com, is called Let Anxious Dogs Lie–On the Best Anti-Anxiety Dog Bed.

I am single, and if you have read my posts recently, you probably already know this. Single and looking? Well, I have found the best time to find someone special is when you’re not looking. Yes, I would like to be in a loving, committed relationship, but I don’t see any prospects on the horizon, so there’s that.

I’m gay. Maybe I should have written that before I said I was single because I’m sure I built up the hopes of countless single ladies and I have now dashed their dreams to smithereens. I’m kidding, of course. I do not, nor have I ever viewed myself as very attractive, so any time I write anything that comes off as arrogant, it is likely sarcastic.

I love tennis, pickleball, ping-pong, and board games as well. I play the alto saxophone (but not in years), piano (quite often), and the basics of a few other instruments. English is my primary language, but I know a little bit of Spanish and I’m fairly proficient in ASL (American Sign Language). Can “proficient” be qualified or quantified?

I have two cats, Zak and Zoe. They are very entertaining and are the subjects of several posts. I consider myself to be a bit of a “cat whisperer,” if you will (or even if you won’t).

How long is this supposed to be? It’s over four hundred words. Are you tired of reading about me? I should certainly hope so.

I have heard many Medium “experts” say that writers should have a niche. I do not and I don’t intend on specifying one. I write a lot of poetry, fictional short stories, an occasional movie review, posts about my cats, articles about Medium (those always seem to be most popular), articles about self-improvement, psychology, etc.

One of my posts that has done very well so far is Clap, Comment, or Follow?

Are we done yet? Well if not, you can follow me and interact with me through my posts and I’m sure we’ll get to know each other better. Until then…
