About Me — Bee Wild

A black techie in Berlin

Picture made by Adam Khabibi on Fiverr

How do I start here? My real name is Robin Wild and I’m a bit like Pippi Longstocking. I’ve never done it before, so I think I can do it. Hihihi.

My aim for Medium is to support my arty, techie life. Stop driving the forklift. And build a good life for my daughter May (5). I live in Berlin. The coolest city on the planet.

It happens in Berlin big time!

Black is beautiful here. My mum is English and my dad Nigerian. I was impossible to handle at age 16, so I went to live with my uncle Oswald in Germany. He’s a cool astrophysicist. And I became a polymath in no time. Meeting astronauts in real life.

What’s a polymath?

Well, a clever person who knows a lot about science.

When I was young, I decided to KNOW everything. But school was boring. So, now I have a job racing forklift trucks in a distribution center. And being a techie, arty designer on the side. Trying my luck with NFTs.

And of course by writing. I’ve been published in the regular English press more often. Cosmopolitan. Your Cat (it was a phase…). And other women’s magazines. Fiction and non-fiction.

But now, I’m moving on to the serious bits. Medium. And perhaps New York Times. Forbes. Why not? Aim low and you’ll never get anywhere…

You’ll never hear me use jargon.

It doesn’t interest me to sound important. Or out of this world. I love Bee-ing with my bare feet in the grass. Burning my soles on desert sand. And I’m a mermaid. Floating and snorkeling in the sea. No chance in Berlin although we do have some boring flat rivers.

But I try to get away to other countries often. And take May. She loves traveling. She’s a curious Bee-ing too.

My main interest is the planet. Gaia. Nature is the only truth. Biology. Ecology. Fair economy. And coding the right algorithms for that. And Formula 1 racing of course. I’m a Max Verstappen fan. I love, just looooooove the fast and the furious.

I’m not a logical Bee-ing in that sense. But who is?

I like football too. Inspired by my uncle Oswald.

And I’m fascinated by astronauts. I’m waiting for the first black woman to go into space. Space is my techie world. And spaceships are the coolest. My mum is a Trekkie. Star Trek. Bit too old fashioned now of course. But well. Times are a changing…

Alicia Key, Sade & Chubby Me

The picture at the top is Alicia Keys in funky fashion. She looks a bit like me. Although, I’m more of a cross. Bit of chubby Sade is in me too.

I’m not into looks. I wear glasses. And I have a tummy that visibly bore a child. But who wants to be pretty online when there are more important things to do and say?

And I can have an avatar anyway… hihihi…

Blogging Anonymous. It might become an addiction for me. AA. Bee A. It means I don’t have to look over my shoulder when people start to hate me. There’s so much hate around, it’s not funny anymore. This way, I can be bold. Outspoken. Have unpopular opinions.

Be emotional and wild. Bee ME.

And what I really want is for this f**ked up world to be run by black mothers. Women are the wise ones. Like Maya Angelou. She’s my all time favorite. I wish I would have known her. But luckily, I have her autobiographies next to my bedside.

Does my haughtiness offend you? Don’t you take it awful hard ’Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines Diggin’ in my own backyard.

Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I’ve got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs?

Maya’s full poem “Still I Rise” can be read online.
