Abnormal Is The New Norm

This poem is a response to “What do you do in your normal life?”

Someone asked me, “What do you normally do?” Said, I’m normally found going against all norms To hell with applying for interviews And filling out useless application forms

They say don’t follow the masses Many a times the M is silent The normal world is at war with itself I’d bribe people to stop being violent

If the state of the world is what defines normal I’m much happier sticking out like a sore thumb At least I can feel the sadness, the itch, Embrace my madness instead of going numb

Coz, what is normal anyways? Normal don’t sit well with my body or mind I care for a world where people will talk less Listen more; not be right but be kind

You’re welcome to join my abnormal brigade Our minds are entertaining and it’s a lot of fun We need no booze to let ourselves loose We’re happy even when we don’t have a reason

When people talk about normal It’s like talking about common sense Well, common sense is uncommon you know ‘Coz look at those people sitting on the fence

Does the ‘normal’ normal ever let you be yourself? ‘Coz those people, they followed the masses For them, I normally put together words that rhyme To see the world without rose-colored glasses

I tried rose-colored glasses to fit in as much Then I found out it wasn’t so cool My abnormal has helped me find my peeps And learn the things I didn’t learn in school

For years I traveled off the beaten track And found nuggets made of pure gold The ones you download from the universe, ‘coz There ain’t a normal shop where they’re sold
