Whites City, New Mexico

On 180 South from Carlsbad to Whites City is the abandoned Apache Canyon Trading Post. From what I could find out, it was open and running until sometime in 2022.

It is abandoned now but provides fun photo opportunities. I couldn’t get Rich to go back in jail, ha ha. I have had him in some pretty funny photos, but today he was not in the mood. Funniest part was noticing how close the jail was to the saloon.

A fun roadside attraction, it is worth a stop if you are passing by. Kids will have fun exploring while mom and dad take photos.

There used to be two teepees, but one of them is knocked down now and only this one remains. The paintings on the outside have all but worn away. Back in the day they were beautiful. I looked up photos of the original teepees from twenty years ago on Google and photos from 1993 are selling on ebay for $20.00.

I would have loved to stop in and spend some time looking through the gift shop that used to be here. As we travel across the country, I love stopping at these abandoned places to see what is left of them before they completely disappear.
