A Young Woman Is A Good Samaritan And A Hero
She saved children from drowning
A frozen pond can be deadly
Colorado is a state which regularly has a lot of snow and ice during the winter months. The water in ponds freezes over and can be dangerous for people who get on the ice. As the weather becomes warmer, the ice melts.
Some young children were playing on a pond near some apartments. There was ice on the pond. It could have turned into a nightmare as the ice cracked, and the children were submerged into the icy cold water. The children were four to eleven years old.
Fortunately for the children, a 23-year-old woman who lives at the apartment complex had been looking out the window and saw the children playing. After she saw the children fall in as the ice broke, she immediately put on her shoes and rushed to the pond.
Caitlin O’Kane wrote about the incident for CBS News. The report stated:
A nightmare scenario turned into a miracle-like rescue in Colorado on Sunday. Four children were playing on a frozen pond in Arapahoe County when three fell in and were submerged in the frigid water. Fortunately, a good Samaritan was nearby and saved the children before it was too late.
Two of the kids made it out safely and Talavera began to pull a 6-year-old up to the surface but was struggling. That’s when a 16-year-old male, identified as the cousin of the 6-year-old, jumped in to help.
When deputies arrived at the scene, one child was not breathing. A deputy immediately began chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
The children and their parents were very fortunate that the young woman had been willing to risk her life to save the children. She is a kind person who is a hero.
Fire officials warned people to stay safe and remember that the ice is not sturdy. They want people to know that they could easily fall in as the ice breaks so they should not take the chance.
