Some young people are enterprising

Recently, I received an email message from someone in my local neighborhood group. People post various announcements about happenings going on in the area or about things that have happened of which they want their neighbors to be aware. A woman sent out an email announcing that her daughter would be selling hot chocolate and cookies along with some handmade bowls at their home.

Although it was not anyone I personally knew and it was some distance away, my wife and I decided to go and support the business efforts of the young girl. Here was a girl in junior high school who was making her way as an entrepreneur at an early age. She was enterprising enough to make cookies and set up a stand for selling them.

When we arrived at her house near the closing time for her sale, the young girl and a friend were manning a table in the front yard. The bowls she had made had sold for $5 to $20, but they had all been sold. We bought some cookies for one dollar each and gave a tip.

It is refreshing to see children who are enterprising and willing to put in the time to earn a little money on their own. She had the support of her parents and her grandfather who helped her make the bowls. It was her idea to sell the items at her home. Her mother gave her a little advertising, and she was on her way.

So many people these days are hurting because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are out of work. Others are collecting unemployment. Some people are unwilling to work. It was refreshing to see this enterprising girl.

I have no idea how much money the girl made, but it appears that it was a successful venture for her since she sold out of her bowls and was almost out of cookies. She was willing to put in the time and effort to become a young entrepreneur. Here she is starting out in business at such a young age.

It is no doubt that this young girl will become successful in her life. She has a good start and is a good example for both young and old.
