A Year To Remember: The Making Of A Quinquagenarian
12 months of fun things to do before you turn into a Quinquagenarian
Turning 50 is monumental and incredibly exciting. I will be turning 50 this year, landmark; I would have lived:
- 438,312 hours
- 18,263 days
- 2609 weeks
- 600 months
- 50 years
Most people may think that that is completely irrelevant information, and for the most part, it is. However, considering all the time that has passed, it is relevant to the time one has left. There is more time behind us than what lies in front of us at this point.
In thinking about all the time that has passed, one may wonder have I accomplished enough what more I can accomplish in the time I may have left. Most people will spend the more significant part of their first 35 to 40 years working hard to achieve their life goals. I was the same way, aiming to achieve life goals.
Now that I am approaching the 600th month of my life, I focus differently. My focus is on kicking back and enjoying the ride. Doing me, and living life to the fullest!
Listed below is the list of the fun and creative things I want to do before the clock strikes midnight and I turn into a Quinquagenarian.
Month 1: Start writing your memoir.
Month 2: Organize all of your photos by decade, And place them in beautiful photo albums.
Month 3: Create a legacy journal with all the fun facts about yourself to leave for your grandkids.
Month 4: Step out of your comfort zone and do something you usually wouldn’t do, like an improvisation class or spoken word, in front of a live audience.
Month 5: Create a space in your home just for you. Just like traditionally, men will have a man cave. Create that woman cave for yourself and fill it with every beautiful thing your heart has desired; make it your own.
Month 6: Do a photoshoot. You versus your alter ego.
Month 7: Plan. The fairytale date that you’ve always wanted. Plan it from a-z and give it to your mate to execute and take you out on your fairytale date.
Month 8: Do something your 13-year-old and self would love, but mom said no.
Month 9: Take one of your Top 3 Dream Vacations
Month 10: Do something that you have been talking yourself out of for years, like getting a certification in wine tasting or becoming a yoga instructor.
Month 11: Spend time, lunch, or cup of tea with someone from a different background or culture. Send them a letter afterward sharing everything you learned.
Month 12: Celebrate you the entire month, no exceptions. Do something special for yourself each day leading up to the big day.
I have enjoyed the second blooming greatly, but suddenly you find — at the age of 50, a whole new life has opened before you. -Agatha Christie
This is just an example of what you can do as you lead into the 50th lap around the sun. The biggest takeaway is just taking time to reflect on the life you’ve lived and reflect on what you’ve overlooked. You’ve done enough; you accomplished enough, let your hair down and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
