A Week Of Sunsets

Photo-A-Day Challenge: 8th — 14th November

I have just returned to Cyprus after three weeks in N. Ireland. What a delight to be in the land of sun and sunsets once again. I can’t believe it is still around 28 degrees Celsius each day! Sunsets seem to linger at this time of year and with more cloud cover, a vibrant backdrop is added to the scene.

I went to the centre of Limassol on an errand and when I saw the cirrus sky, I knew the sunset would be a spectacle. I had come prepared with my camera and was not disappointed. Fortunately, Limassol Marina is right beside the city centre!

Peaceful reflection, Limassol. 9th November. Photo by author.

My evening stroll now takes place at 4.00 pm, just before sunset. I often photograph the pier featured in the picture above when I’m in close range, but this time, I used my zoom lens from quite a distance and captured moments of reflection.

Ball of fire, Limassol. 10th November. Photo by author.

What I love about Limassol are the numerous beaches along the beautiful coastline. Several beaches are within walking distance from my apartment, which means I can combine daily exercise with photography. The skyline of Limassol continues to change with the addition of high-rise luxurious apartment blocks.

Tranquil rays, Kourion Beach. 11th November. Photo by author.

On Thursday afternoon, I headed to Kourion Beach, which is about 17 km west of Limassol. I enjoyed a few tranquil moments out of the city and also replenished my strength with some apple pie at a beach restaurant. (I chose to post the sunset rather than the apple pie!)

Yellow fire, Zygi. 12th November. Photo by author.

One of my favourite places to walk is Zygi, a little fishing marina not far from Limassol. I began to photograph the sunset about fifteen minutes before it set, which means there are yellow hues in the picture.

Hazy pink, Old St. Nicholas Church, Kouris Dam. 13th November. Photo by author.

On Saturday, I went for a walk by Kouris Dam. There the ruins of the Old St. Nicholas Church attract many visitors and photographers. The sun set behind the mountains to the right, but the effects of the sunset were visible over the dam.

Hidden glory, Limassol. 14th November. Photo by author.

I went to to my usual place to walk along the Limassol coastline on Sunday afternoon. With the extra cloud clover, the final moments of the sunset were obscured. However, it is was still a pretty scene, with a reminder that the beaches are still in use in November!

I have enjoyed being out every afternoon over the past week to photograph the theatrical sunsets of Cyprus. Nature’s beauty never ceases to create a sense of delight and I have aimed to share this with you. Thank you!
