This is part of a series of daily tips for writers which is published to share ideas and suggestions on our craft. Everyone will have different advice on how to write, so the tip below is just a personal selection which I hope you will find useful, and do share any of your own in the comments. I hope you find it useful.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Eleanor Roosevelt

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

“The next time you encounter a difficult obstacle or problem, you should smile and say, ‘Here’s my chance to grow.’ Zig Ziglar

Today’s tip is to keep a collection of good quotations, either in your notebook, or electronically, ready to dip into when you want a pithy saying to introduce an article, chapter of your best-seller, or to break up blocks of text.

Quotations are great for livening up an article, and a pull quote can be used to break up blocks of text. A pull quote also known as a lift-out quote, is used in graphic design to highlight text as a design effect to entice the reader and make a page more readable.

As well as building your own collection of favourite quotations, a good reference book of quotations may be helpful as well. Quotations from famous people form part of our collective history, and it can inspire the reader to see something memorable.

Speaking of inspirational quotes, one it is remarkable how many of them come from Zig Zilglar, who was full of sayings about how to lead a better life, and it is worth reading some of them.
