A War that Lasted Longer than the Vietnam War!!!

A war whose outcome was only destruction and slaughter: The regrettable withdrawal of NATO from Afghanistan.

“The days of NATO and US forces withdrawal from Afghanistan”

The only war that lasted longer than the Vietnam War was the NATO and United States war in Afghanistan, which had very dire consequences and is largely seen as a failure for NATO and America by most policymakers.

The United States entered Afghanistan to eliminate terrorism and establish peace, but left without achieving this objective, allowing Taliban forces to regain control.

Even on the days of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, very unfortunate events unfolded for the Afghan people, leading to the escape of the Afghan President and the takeover of Taliban forces, instilling terror among the populace, and prompting mass exodus attempts, especially by those who had worked for the US and NATO during these years. Everyone rushed to Kabul Airport to leave Afghanistan, and it was during this chaos that ISIS took advantage and detonated a bomb at Kabul Airport, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of individuals.

The President had fled, and all the people were in terror, especially when the Taliban took control of the country and people tried to get themselves out of Afghanistan by any means possible.

All Afghans who had worked for NATO forces were in a very bad situation and feared the Taliban. For this reason, all the people stormed Kabul Airport, and American forces only took a few of them with them. This led to a situation where, as the American plane took off, people chased after the last American plane, and many clung to the wings of the plane. As the plane ascended into the sky, the young man who was clinging to the wing fell to the ground, which was a moment that weakened the spirits of all the people.

The withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan(2021):

The armed forces of the United States completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan on August 30, 2021, marking the end of the war in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021.

This withdrawal was based on the Doha Agreement (2020) (officially titled the Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan) signed on February 29, 2020, by the Trump administration and the Taliban. Its provisions included the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan in exchange for the Taliban’s commitment to prevent al-Qaeda activities in areas under Taliban control and negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban for a permanent ceasefire. This withdrawal took place in August 2021.

Why couldn’t NATO emerge victorious against the Taliban during these years? Did NATO and the United States use Afghanistan for political purposes and their own benefit?

Michael Mc Caul, a senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee who took control of the House of Representatives after the Republican Party regained control, added: “It is ridiculous and shameful that the Biden administration has repeatedly rejected our requests and continues to withhold information regarding the withdrawal [from Afghanistan].”

Mr. McCaul said: “If the lack of cooperation continues and if necessary, the committee will use its powers to enforce these requests, including through a compulsory process.”

Multiple Republican senators, such as Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and Jim Inhofe, criticized the withdrawal. Johnny Spann, the father of Johnny Micheal Spann, the first American killed in the Afghan war, said he was “disgusted” with the “shameful” evacuation of Kabul. Many other politicians also opposed this untimely decision by the United States.

The war in which thousands of American and other NATO forces have been killed, and a large number of Afghans have lost their lives, homes, and security, has ended in vain, concluding with behind-the-scenes policies that resulted in the handover of Afghanistan, once again, to the Taliban, and nothing else.
