A Visit at the Campaign Against Genocide Museum in Kigali, Rwanda

At the heart of the beautiful city of Kigali, there is a “new” museum that just opened up. If you are visiting Kigali for the first time, I highly recommend going there, especially if you are interested in learning about the history of Rwanda. This museum tells the story of courageous men and women of the Rwandan Patriotic Front ( RPF)who, upon noticing that the international community and the whole world had abandoned Rwanda, and left the Tutsi people to die at the hands of their genocide regime, they launched the campaign to stop the last genocide of the 20th century, the genocide against Tutsi in 1994.
The Campaign against genocide is a powerful story that can only be told by Rwandans and the cadres of the RPF only. It is the story of patriotism, sacrifice, and selfless service by the troops of the Rwandan Patriotic Front ( RPF). As a Rwandan, it was very refreshing to learn about what it took to save this beautiful country I now call home. It was one of the most informative and educational tour I have ever had in Rwanda. It made me ask myself so many questions and made me appreciate how far we have come as a country.
What makes the Museum unique?

Genocide lasted approximately one hundred days, from April 7th to July 4th, 1994. During this period, over one million lives perished in this genocide. Had the RPF not stepped in to fight the forces of evil ( the genocide regime and their FAR forces), genocide would not have stopped. The killings would have continued until the perpetrators finished what they had set out to do, which was to exterminate all the Tutsis in the country. I don’t even know what Rwanda would have been today.
Thanks to the struggle of the RPF, Rwanda has changed the course of her history. Rwanda today is a “miracle”. We have a wonderful country to be proud of. I left this museum with a sense of pride and promised myself to spread the ideals that have rebuild Rwanda today; unity, diligence, and patriotism.
Campaign Against Genocide Museum

This museum is situated in Kacyiru by the headquarters of the Rwandan parliament. It was inaugurated by President Paul Kagame on December 14th 2017. Upon arriving, you will be divided in groups where you will be given a tour guide. There are tour guides in Kinyarwanda, English, and French. The tour lasted about two hours and was very informative.
I recommend it to those who have not visited yet. It is a must-see, especially for those who have been at the Kigali Memorial Center in Gisozi. While the Gisozi Memorial Center tells the story of how genocide happened, from the planning, to the execution, etc, this museum tells another story of how it was stopped by the heroes of the Rwandan Patriotic Front.
There is also a documentary ( the 600 Film), that tells this powerful heroic story of RPF story. I have yet to watch the documentary, but those who have seen the documentary say it is a must-see as well. I can’t wait to watch it and write my reflection.
