A Very Special Agent
This started off, for some reason, in an area where I had been before in dreams. I had a dream a few times in the past where I was living in a house during christmas time that was extremely reminiscent of Little, Big
It’s not important for the rest of this dream. I am only mentioning it because I had forgotten about this place and these other dreams set there, until this dream. In the other dreams there had also been a large snowstorm and we’d been snowed in for a week and done a lot of snow activities that was like these American Primitive paintings
But, as I said, this had nothing to do with the rest of the dream. In fact I can’t even be sure if this was the same dream as the rest of what I will be describing here, but there wasn’t a break between the dreams.
At any rate I was a special agent attached to some Federal Bureau, the abbreviation FBI was never used. And me and my partner — a woman with whom I had no romantic entanglements — were of course generally out and about catching criminals. The main interest of this scenario was this was a world where people had superpowers — another evident dream saturated by popular media.
Then we were in a situation trying to catch someone, a fugitive, who had shape-shifting powers! They were by a road curving around a lake late at night, pretty sure I have seen this road in other dreams but also in movies. Got very close to catching him and he turned into a wolf and then a fish and jumped into the lake, and I dove after him and was swimming around looking for him. It was not brought up in the dream but I guess one power of mine allowed me to be under the water and not needing to breathe. I was following the fish and then he went around a sunken object of some sort and when I rounded the corner to see him he had disappeared.
This was very like the original Taliesin origin poem, a version of which is found in The Mixtape of Taliesin
Selection from poem “The Birth of Taliesin”
All these forms I assumed
I was a blue salmon
battling the waterfall
a yapping hound,a bloody stag
a roebuck on the hill
grain growing on the hillside
reaped & dropt in a pile
of like & pecked up by a hen
Later, I theorized to my partner that he might have turned in a mud colored crab and scuttled away, along the lake floor. This theorizing was done in a 70s colored hotel on the government’s dime, there were cartoons playing on the little tv on the dresser.
What was the cartoon? League of Super Friends, with the Wonder Twins
I remember feeling a sense of nostalgia as the Wonder Twins were doing their wonder twins activate thing
And thinking about how the ‘reality’ (meaning the world of the dream in which super powers exist and I just had to chase the damn shape shifter) wasn’t like the fantasy.
Then I got woken up by an excited kid, 5 in the morning.
Then I fell asleep again and was back in the dream, me and my partner and the guy we were chasing were in some sort of non-descript white interrogation room.
He was saying we could never hope to defeat him because — demonstration of his powers time — he turns in to a Centaur!
I remember being impressed and scared because most shape shifters couldn’t do that and I asked “You can do mythological creatures!” narrowly jumping out of the way of him striking my forehead with his forehooves.
“Yes” he announced “case in point!” and he changed into a dragon (Smaug Variety). Then he lunged for us.
Kid woke me up again. I didn’t go back because anyway the kid was not going to let me. But also didn’t want a dream of being digested inside the dragon’s fiery guts.
Dream Categories: 2, 7, 9
2) Personal — the dreamer is in the dream
7) Narrative — has a story.
9) Energetic: got adrenalin flowing, probably scary but also fighting etc.
I guess we could also consider it to have category 6, “Continuing — a dream that takes up a story from a previous dream”, because of the short break. But I generally only considering that category when there is a significant break of some days or weeks between the parts of a dream.
