A Utah Republican Congressman’s Current Message
All the members of Congress from Utah are Republicans
Utah has six members of Congress.
Although there have been times when Utah has had Democrats serving in the Congress of the United States, the current four Utah Congressmen and two Senators are all Republicans.
Utah is one of the most red states in the nation. Utah has a Republican Governor and a State Legislature which has a strong Republican majority.
Utah goes through redistricting after the census, which may be an attempt by the Republicans in the State Legislature to remove or discourage Democrats. The Congressman where I live in Salt Lake City is new to the area through redistricting.
He sent out a newsletter in which he mentioned the Speaker’s race. He stated that he is glad that there was a unanimous vote for the new Speaker Mike Johnson.
He said that he appreciates Johnson’s commitment to getting a debt commission put together soon, which is something Speaker McCarthy brought to the floor in September.
It was a bit surprising that Johnson became Speaker with one vote taken. It took Kevin McCarthy fifteen times of voting, but he was later removed. The two in contention after McCarthy was ousted could not garner enough votes to become Speaker so they withdrew.
Of course, the members of Congress knew Mike Johnson, but not that many in the general population had ever heard of him. It is interesting that Steve Scalise and Mike Johnson are both from Louisiana.
Scalise and Jim Jordan both would apparently not admit that Biden won the election and should be President.
Johnson is said to be like Jordan in his support of Trump, but he has stayed under the radar with some of his views even though he was supporting Trump in his bid to overturn the election results of 2020.
None of the Utah Congressmen voted to oust McCarthy. They have been supporters of Trump and are not outspoken against him as Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) has been.
The Congressman ended his report by saying that the House passed a bipartisan resolution affirming Israel’s right and responsibility to defend itself against the brutal Hamas attacks.
The House of Representatives should be very busy in the next three weeks after they ousted their Speaker and delayed choosing a replacement.
