Summary

The website content is a poetic reflection on the fantastical sighting of a unicorn, presented as a response to a fantasy-themed poetry prompt.

Abstract

The content presents a sonnet titled "A Unicorn is Standing," which describes an encounter with a unicorn in a yard, seemingly interacting with hens. The narrator questions their own perception, acknowledging the skepticism of friends but remains captivated by the mythical creature. The poem dismisses the pursuit of material gain from the unicorn, such as the belief in the medicinal properties of its horn, and instead focuses on the rarity and wonder of the experience. The unicorn is depicted as a peaceful yet powerful being, its presence causing time to seem to stand still. The piece is a creative contribution to the "Fantastically Fantasy" poetry prompt on Medium, inviting other poets to explore the realm of fantasy in their work.

Opinions

  • The narrator is skeptical of the mythical properties attributed to unicorns, such as the value of their horns (alicorns).
  • There is a clear appreciation and fascination for the unicorn's existence, as the narrator desires a closer view and is awestruck by its presence.
  • The poem conveys a sense of disbelief and wonder, contrasting the mundane setting of a yard with the extraordinary presence of a unicorn.
  • The author seems to value the imaginative and enchanting aspects of fantasy, as indicated by their participation in the "Fantastically Fantasy" poetry prompt.
  • The content suggests a critique of the exploitation of mythical creatures for profit, as seen in the mention of the poor narwhal being fished and sold for its tusk.

A unicorn is standing in the yard. It looks like it’s out messing with the hens. Do I see what I see? I disregard my better sense according to my friends.

The unicorn’s a unitary beast and even if there were a virgin near I’m not so sly to make this thing deceased. I just would like a closer view. I peer.

I’m not that interested in the gold. That alicorn strange powder’s fake. It’s ground from narwhal tusk. The poor thing’s fished and sold. Ferocious beast, this unicorn I found

behind my fence, far from the castle walls, with single spiral swinging horn. Time stalls.
