A Two Year Old Fatally Shot His Sister

Such a tragedy and so senseless

Gun advocates are generally people who want their guns, and they keep them safe. Most gun owners are likely responsible. They lock up their guns and make sure that loaded guns are not accessible to children. It appears that many gun owners do not take the precautions that should be normal practice with any gun ownership.

It is common sense that loaded guns should not be accessible to children. There is no guarantee that children will not get hold of guns if they are within reach. People think it would not happen to them, but accidents can occur to anyone.

Another tragedy with a gun happened in Pennsylvania. It was reported by CBS News Philadelphia: “Toddler fatally shoots 4-year-old sister inside car at gas station.”

Police in Pennsylvania say a 4-year-old girl is dead after her younger brother apparently shot her by accident inside a car parked at a gas station. Chester Police said a 2-year-old boy was “handling a gun inside of a vehicle” when it discharged.

Gun safety advocates say firearm risks must be studied and treated like other public health threats.

Of course, a small child would not intentionally kill his sister. The incident was deemed to be an accident when the gun discharged. The father was outside the vehicle, and the two children were inside the car. The boy somehow got access to the gun. This was a toddler.

People heard a single gunshot from inside the vehicle. The girl was rushed to a medical center and was later pronounced dead. What a devastating experience for the family! The father was reportedly a good father who regularly had the children with him at the mini-mart. He obviously never expected his child to get hold of the gun.

The names were not released, and the investigation is ongoing.

There are too many accidents happening where children get access to loaded weapons. The advocacy group, Everytown for Gun Safety, has reported that there have been 51 unintentional shootings by children in the United States this year. These accidents have resulted in 17 deaths and 34 injuries.

One of those was a mother who was accidentally shot to death in Chicago by her three-year-old son. The family was sitting in a car in a supermarket parking lot when the shooting happened.

The group reported that there were at least 379 unintentional shootings by children in the United States last year. There were 154 deaths and 244 injuries.

Those figures are alarming. Young children should never have access to loaded guns. It can cause devastation to the family.
