Into This World She’s Come

Permission Granted By Piper’s Parents — We’ll Beg Her Forgiveness When She’s Older.

At precisely 12:08 Central Daylight Time Saturday morning, my seventh grandchild and third granddaughter announced her entrance into this world of ours.

And I’m conflicted as all holy h*ll about it. For one thing, an instant message picture is as close as grandpa and grandma are going to get for a while.

Thanks very much, COVID-19.

What with the situation like it is, only our daughter and son-in-law could be in attendance for this momentous occasion, except for the doctors and nurses who all had had front row seats.

Although two dimensional, this photo means the world to us.

It’s been a long time since the missus, and I held a newborn in our arms. A long time since we’ve had the pleasure of watching the eyes of a newborn infant as they process all the sights, smells, sounds, and sensations against her cherubic face.

And we may not be able to hold her in our arms, but we can certainly ask mommy and daddy to deliver this message to you.

Piper Bella Cook? Welcome to this scary, beautiful, wonderous, soul-crushing, uplifting, terrifying, and glorious place, also known as life.
