A Tribute to Medium Publication Editors

It is common to find people talking about their individual success in Medium — let’s say, how they earn four-digit money within one month.

I do believe that Medium is a magical place where dreams come true.

Today, I would like to share the stories of the hidden figures behind these successful stories — the editors from the individual publication who help writers to publish and promote their work.

This month, I started to submit one draft of my stories to editors every day.

Usually, the editors would reply within a day. And if I were lucky enough, I’d see my article go live the next morning, including both styling and formatting improved. My editors are so professional and dedicated, as if they are a full-time staff in Medium.

As a Medium writer, of course, we get paid for the work we do on Medium. But how about the independent publication editors?

Dan, the editor of the Personal Growth publication, mentioned in his article that actually none of them get any compensation from Medium directly.

Publishing good articles creates traffic and builds more followers for a publication. When editors publish their own work, they benefit from the broader audience list.

In Dave’s article, he mentioned that his publication, Entrepreneur’s Handbook, partners with companies to deliver letters to their email subscribers.

In other cases, editors could also let some companies publish a paid placement in the publication if it resonates with the readers and their value position.

Selling the Network

The other day I read an article about a Medium editor who ran a publication for two years then sold it to someone else. It must have been a tough decision since editors spend so much time and effort on their publication, as if it were their baby.

Then, once the deal was done, that editor started to build his next kingdom from the ground all over again.

Although there are ways for publication to earn, most of them are devoting their personal time because of their passion and mission to build the world a better place.
