A Thought to Starve Racism

Maybe we have to battle racism until the end of the world, yet we can choose which side to stand.

America has again become a place of unrest. The predicament of the pandemic has been compounded by racialism.

The news showed not all the demonstrators marching abreast on the streets are fighting for egalitarianism; not all the police officers remain neutral and look after public order. Mixing with various people with various intentions, the protest has turned violent and complicated, and the police tend to control opposition forces by imposing stronger force.

Protestor, Real Protestor?

On 27 May, the second day of protest, a video of looting at Minneapolis( Floyd hometown) swiftly went viral. The “Protestor” seemingly strolling around, walking off with merchandise.

Till now, it is hard to identify the motivation of the people who take to the street, whether out of genuine outrage or mere opportunism.

The strikes of COVID-19, high unemployment, lack access to health care, domestic violence, confusing governance, and unstable presidency are all possible factors leading to the mad looting, or fake protest.

Regardless of the looters’ motivations, looting would not help to stop racism nor restore the society-order. Trashing things is a controversial symbol of protest. Yes, this extreme behaviour does ring an ear-piercing bell to the higher authority, yet it is highly contentious and condemnable.

In my opinion, looters are not protestors at all. Looters are just simply looters.

Terrence Floyd, brother of Goerge Floyd, made an emotional plea for peace. He is the man who should be searching for revenge, yet he showcased his composure, warning people to stop trashing the community.

Police, public servant?

Polices are law enforcement officers. Their duty is to protect the citizen, keep the nation safe. However, started from Derek Chauvin, police, a representative of safety has become a symbol of chaos.

With the growing violence among protestors, polices has tended to react with more excessive forces.

There are tons of video online, showing the polices actively provoke public safety. They hurt the protestor indiscriminately, seeming to attack the demonstrators like enemies, rather than the citizens they had sworn to protect. An article on the New York Time wrote: The Nation’s Largest Police Force Is Treating Us as an Enemy.

30 May, a police SUV rammed into the crowd of demonstrators in Brooklyn.

In Seattle, a little girl was sprayed on the face.

In Dallas, a lady was shot on the face by a rubber bullet while walking back home with groceries. Side note: Rubber bullet is expected to produce contusions, abrasions, and hematomas. It also can cause bone fractures, injuries to internal organs, or death.

A Solution, Probably the Ultimate Solution.

So, the question is: How to make the situation better? How to stop the lawless protest and brutal police control?

There are lots of ways to make things better. Such as launching protests, changing the employment plan, enforce a stricter rule to punish the racists, demands for criminal justice and police reform, etc. These suggestions are reasonable, appropriate, and ought to be implemented seriously, immediately.

Before we get to the bottom, let’s ask an essential question: “What will the protest achieve? Would racism disappear in the US? Will the US government carry out adequate actions? Would the justice miscarriage, and the murderer live on as usual? ”

What has popped up in your mind?

Frankly speaking, I do not have answers to these questions. But I know I can behave well, be a good person, and ready to embrace all sort of colours and people in this world.

Acknowledge the racism rooted in our heart, then sow virtue, and show sympathy to others.

This should start with every individual.

In order to stop COVID-19 spread among people, governments implemented different policies to curb the virus, such as: nation-wide digital surveillance, movement control, airport shut-down, invent vaccines, impose lockdown, so on and so on.

More importantly, everyone has to practise social distancing, put on face masks and pay attention to personal hygiene.

In the case of COVID-RACISM, it is just the same. Governments carry out schemes; and the people work on self-betterment, cultivate indiscriminate loves. It is precisely just like wearing mask and washes hands frequently.

It is the only effective way to stop racism virus.

As the saying in the article of Ramesh A Nagarajah, instead of asking: “When the dust settles, I wonder if anything will actually change?”, you should ask yourself, “When the dust settles, I wonder if I will actually change?”

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

It might seem like an old saying, everybody knows. But you cannot deny if people not obeying this simple rule, the human will be engaged in a permanent war with racism, until the end of the world.

Maybe we have to battle racism until the end of the world, but we can choose which side to stand.

The Uplifting News

Surprisingly, many Americans, protestor and police, have shown the moving virtues to the public.

In spite of the wide-spread frustrations, there are polices express sympathy towards George Floyd. Instead of thwarting the protest, they prayed and took a knee in solidarity with demonstrators.

Police and demonstrators shook hands and hugged.

Some people volunteered to clean up the graffiti and debris left by the protestor.

Chris Swanson, the Sherrif of Genesee County, laid down his helmet and baton and joined the protestor, announce: “Not one ounce of damage, nobody arrested, nobody got hurt, this is the way it(the protest) suppose to be.” His reaction received nationwide praise.

Art Acevedo, A police chief in Houston, Texas, had given a compassionate and sensible speech, expressing “Houston is a city where blacks and whites and browns and legal and illegal all get together because we judge each other by the content of our hearts”.

Knee On The Neck, Again!?

An ironic incident happened on 31th May, at Seattle, another police officer placed his knee on a white looter’s neck, precisely the same way Derek Chauvin kneel on George Floyd. A person behind the scene was yelling: “Move your fxxking knee off his neck!”

Many people swipe across this news, hackles rise because the situation was so similar to the death of George Floyd.

This time, the police’s colleague probably aware that was a notorious murderous act, he reached out his hand and moved his colleague’s knee off the neck.

It is an act that illustrates the awareness of brutality, awakeness from inequality, and a precious sense of kindness.

People enraged by the death of George Floyd and step onto the street, hoping to make some changes.

This police officer has showoff his changes and virtues. The world has got a bit better with his tiny loving behaviour.

He has put on his moral mask.
