A Thank You Note to All You Highlighters

Yes, you — not the markers.

One of the best features for me here on Medium is the ability to highlight. And that the author can see it. Whenever someone highlights a passage from my posts, I get excited like a kid on Christmas morning.

Why, you wonder?

1. Resonating

You resonated with the words, and this makes me happy. It means there is a slight chance you found comfort in what I’ve written. Essentially, I write to you and I want you to feel comfortable while reading it.

2. Shared opinions

It shows me I’m not alone in my viewpoint and that you perhaps share the same opinion.

3. Curiosity

I’m not going to lie, I’m a curious person by nature. So I always find it interesting when you highlight a certain passage, sentence, even a word because it means it potentially stood out for you.

4. Another pair of eyes

We all see things through different sets of eyes. We look at the same world, but we see it differently. It’s the same as with proving we all see the same colour: we can’t (e.g. your red could be different than my red).

I see a certain charm in this knowing that we are all essentially different, but can still appreciate or even share other’s opinions. And support fellow writers while doing so.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for highlighting and let you know it doesn’t go unnoticed. Now go and have an amazing day!
