Summary

Luciano Abriata shares his unexpected encounter with a salamander while engaging in a street photography challenge in a forest, which led him to capture images of nature instead.

Abstract

In response to a challenge by Anne Bonfert to explore street photography, Luciano Abriata ventured into a forest with his bike and camera. His journey took him through various scenes of nature, ultimately leading to a serendipitous sighting of a salamander crossing a rain-soaked road. This salamander, which was 15-20 cm long, black and yellow, and known to have toxic skin, became the highlight of his photographic adventure. Abriata's experience reflects the unpredictable and rewarding nature of photography, as he shifted his focus from urban to natural elements. He also provides educational insights into the salamander's toxicity, mentioning tetrodotoxin and its molecular structure similar to adamantane. The article concludes with invitations to explore more of his work and engage with his content through various platforms.

A surprise while shooting photographs in the street

First time in my life that I see a salamander in its natural environment!

Anne Bonfert recently challenged us to go to the streets:

She explained this forced her to move out of her comfort zone, shooting nature. I though this could be a good chance for me, too. And I tried it, but fate put this creature right on my road… so I couldn’t help and fell back to nature!

I was riding my bike in a forest:

Then climbing up and reaching the top of the forest:

Then one quick ride down…

And there animals crossing the humid roads, as it was raining right as I rode:

Including a salamander! 15–20 cm long, black and yellow, lovely!

This is apparently a species with a very toxic skin:

One of its toxins is tetrodotoxin, shown in the next picture, an interesting molecule because it has 4 rings but three of them are fused much like in adamantane.

Response to a previous, also very interesting prompt by Anne
