How and why we should make a vision board every year
Spring-time reset for a successful year
It is always the perfect time to create a vision board. Take what you’ve learned about yourself and restart anytime during the year with some visualisation and manifestation tips.
Let’s get started!
What is a vision board, and Why do we need it?
People who read my newsletter have a goal in mind or want a purpose in life. There are usually two problems: 1) the goal is vague, and 2) we unconsciously think we need to make a lot of sacrifices to achieve the future goal.
I don’t think our lives today need to be overworked, burnt out, exhausted, insecure, sad, or negative generally to be happy in the future. We should be happy, satisfied, motivated in every waking moment of our lives.
A vision board helps us see clearly what our goal looks like holistically, and more importantly, how far we are already living our vision TODAY.
Without this clarity, we will be grinding away our lives with no respect, gratitude or hope. It’s a mistake to think happiness is in the future, and it must, and can only be, in the now.
If there’s no happiness now, it’s pretty hopeless for the future. And there’s happiness in the present moment, and you need to see it today with a vision board.
Step by step to make a vision board
Digital/Paper version 🆗
Traditionally people will buy tonnes of magazines, cut out images and words and create a collage of dream life. I like doing collages too, but I’ve found that using magazines fuels bad consumerism. Do I want to be as hot and rich as that Gucci model?
Certain magazines will brainwash us into feeling happiness only come from owning things. So if you go down this route, please choose your paper media carefully.
Otherwise, Google and Canva is your best friend! Save your image and upload it for a digital collage on Canva for FREE ⭐
What did your future self tell you?
Start with this journaling prompt — a letter from your future self, it is a must to create an effective, meaningful board. Because what you think you want and what your subconsciousness want are usually quite different. Knowing what we subconsciously believe show us what our true intentions and motivations are.
If we are motivated by insecurity, we might think that we will only be happy if we have a boyfriend or a top career. Now is the time to decide what truly makes us happy. You should then Google these images and put them on your vision board.
What have you got now?
Most of our future selves will tell us not to be so hard on ourselves. Look at your life today, are there at least some elements already represented your ideal life? Are you already eating healthily? Have loving friends? Enjoy a hobby? Don’t overlook them. Put them on your vision board too.

Know your priority
We might think we need a lot of money to become happy. But how much is enough? The significance of everything will start to diminish when it spills over our equilibrium. Is a private jet a nice to have or necessary for happiness? Do we want to spend our finite resources getting money for a plane, or should we stop overworking and spend time with our loved ones? That’s a choice you must prioritise. Putting it on your vision board reminds us just that.
There’s plenty of food for thought
I hope you enjoy taking some time to create your vision board. Print and stick that to your journal or set it as your laptop’s wallpaper or even your phone’s lock screen. It will remind you not to deviate from your vision, as your actions today count towards everything your future holds.
Feel free to send me comments, sharing, etc., of your vision board.
