Medium Growth As A Platform
A Story of Medium as a Platform
Have you wondered? Where did your traffic come from?

Medium Increase its traffic by over 10% from December to January 2024.
10% might not seem a lot but from 155M to 173M=18M/30days=600,000 more pair of eyeballs a Day reading. (to be exact that is 5,766,666 people reading per day on Medium in January)
When I say the sky of the reader is the limit, we have only seen less than 1% yet. A comment I left on Ryan Canady’s Post.

We have a long way to go. I’m moving forward even if it is just an inch.
Some Facts about Medium that you should know.
Medium is less than 3% of Twitter or now X in terms of traffic.
That means if you are here, your chance of success has greatly increased as the platform grows. (you just need to maintain and grow steadily.)

User base — Device.
This is the only few social platform that has more desktop users.
To be honest desktop users are far more loyal and consistent than mobile users. As they do not just sit down and prepare to read and write but also think at their own will without the unintended distraction from the ease of access of apps.

Website Engagement (not the engagement we do on the platform)
Since Medium is more of a paid platform the duration and bounce rate are high. I actually looked at this during Oct 2023, every metric did increase a bit including the bounce rate.

Where are you writing from?
Did you know that Medium is more worldwide than you think?
Just over 50% of traffic comes from these 5 countries and the rest is all around the globe.

Branding
If you are trying to build some kind of brand or personal brand, then social networks are your best friend.
I have seen a lot of companies position their marketing strategy around Facebook and YouTube. (those of old tactics and data usage methods, they work but the ROI is just lower compared to other places)
For Medium the growth lies within Twitter, Linkedin, and Reddit.
See how it is positioned well that way.

Where Medium gets a lot of its new organic traffic from these pillars in place.
Don’t think that 3.66% of social traffic is a little. It does snow ball fairly quickly like Carl Jeffers, Ryan Canady, and Daniel T.
Even a platform like X can’t compete with the percentage of organic searches coming from the web onto Medium. (it is all because of you, and your posts as well)

Direct means someone is typing in the website to get on to the site. (stands for stable)
Organic search means someone is searching on the web for something and they found Medium or even your posts. (that is real growth right there)
Lady and Gentleman, do you know your breakdown?

As a side track, I did land a freelance position in June 2022 by sharing my search with the company I interviewed with and got hired right away. (felt the power of writing right there)
They love you knowing about them, what they do, or the industry they are in, so always be prepared to over-deliver, this can work if you want to be promoted in your current position as well as just know who to share this information with.
Always wanted to sit down and write a post like this but didn’t have the time and vibe for it.
Thank you for Reading. (We’re all within that map)
