A Story Behind the Choice of Freelance Work

This story reflects the journey of a girl — whose choice helps to stand out of the four walls of a conservative mind.

Probably, you have read many stories under the freelance work title, but this story will provide a distinct taste. It has written from the perspective of a woman- who lives in a so-called liberal mindset society. In this story, the girl is no one other but in myself.

The purpose of sharing the story — behind the freelance work is not to get sympathy but to pave the way for those females who are not allowed to work outside. It acts as an inspiration for a woman who wishes to create a self irrespective of gender.

We all live in different environments, but the issues like gender discriminations, male dominance, and culture remain the same, irrespective of society. It is running in the bloodstream of every human and has a strong position. Women are living a bit complicated life — because of the stereotypic notions about gender. In my perspective,

A woman should create herself out of the gender box. The same is the case discussed in the story. It acts as a voice against gender notions. It shows that women are not less than men. If she wishes to create life — she can do it.

I am a young female of twenties but faced the same issues as the centuries go long. These issues made me choose freelance work. I did not stop myself from standing out the four walls of the conservative mind. The creation of a self leads to the roads of freelancing.

You have read the above quotation of George Bernard Shaw about life. I follow this quotation and create myself as a freelance writer. Today, I am not earning as much as I can do but live happily with the choice of freelance work. At least, have something to do except doing house chores.

The choice of freelance work gives me a different self. This self is beneficial for others — in the sense of sharing knowledge and experience. It helped in the breakdown of the conservative thoughts about a working woman. This work empowers the self and womanhood. Freelance work made me somehow independent.

I belong to a family — who is possessive about girls. They allow girls to get an education but within certain limitations. My father had a different mentality. He allowed me to get higher studies. Many of the family members opposed this idea, but he supported me. Today, he is not among us, but his teachings are always there. I am thankful to him — for the trust, education, and everything — he did for me. He opens the future doors by giving me an excellent education.

This education enables me to write here. After the loss of my father, everything pulled me down. I found myself lost in a conservative mindset, but I did not want to live the life of eighteens. I experimented with the skills which made a content writer. The oppositions and the shitty talks enable me to choose freelance work — instead of waste time. There is no shame to work for family and self.

I searched on the internet and came across different freelance work. I worked at Fiverr for more than a year. There, I did nothing for myself. I have no voice, only follow the orders like a traditional woman follows her husband. I came across Medium a few months ago. It is about two months of the journey. This new journey has not driven me rich but — enriches my thoughts. The Medium journey taught me that life is still worth living.

The freelance work did not pull out the restriction but serves best for females live in a conventional society. It is difficult for a woman to overcome trust issues. Here, freelance work did somehow better. It assures that female lives within the four walls of the culture. It satisfies the patriarchal mindset.

Woman — who wishes to do for others and wants to share her knowledge with the other generation — then why not choose any freelance work. It is just a choice.

She is right. Women have talent, but the lack of proper exposure, the patriarchal mindset, and the society — paralyzes them in different ways. In this situation, freelance work acts as a superb source for sharing talent.

Russell used a beautiful expression about working women in The Conquest of Happiness. According to that

“Woman has a higher degree of conscientiousness than that of men.”

Still, people want to suppress women based on gender. I recommend women to let themselves be free from the conservative mindsets by the creation of a self. The so-called liberal minds are still there to stop you, but you have to keep an eye on the goal.

Female gender is a notorious term. It acts as a barrier for women. The judgmental societal will judge you on a gender basis — no doubt, how different you are from the rest of the gender.

Now, you are thinking — come on — it is the 21st century. These things are no longer, but at some places, it remains same. Although it is the 21st century, the minds and unconscious still think the same.

The difficulties for women have changed their shape — not the position. Issues like gender discrimination, inequality, patriarchy, and bias-ness are hard to dismiss. These issues are imprints in the unconscious. It is hard to overcome all the problems, but one can ease them.

One act of women — changes the life of the other women. Maybe this act of writing will change the life of another fellow.

To open this blind alley, women have to come out in any form like a freelancer. If a woman cannot speak for her rights, then she should change her tool of language. In Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie said,

Language is courage: the ability to conceive a thought, to speak it, and by doing so to make it true.

Women can use writing as a tool of the language. It acts as a voice for women. The male-dominant society is not coming slowly, so why do you stop yourself. Life is unstoppable. Do something that suits you better.

The concerns will remain for many years. The insecurities will continue in different forms. You can not change the mindset of gender, but you can change yours.

First, people are afraid of going outside, and now the media turns the knife on the wound. Media has positive and negative aspects. I will not waste our precious time in the discussion over media but notice its after-effects.

When people see the cases related to women, they become more possessive about the household women. In such conditions, freelance platforms are doing a great job. Freelance platforms help in the creation of a self. It helps in exercising the skills which ultimately nourish the self.
