A Speck of Dust
A Poem
Do you realize how inconsequential we are? Just a conglomeration of atoms On a spinning orb In space
Overly concerned with our following An assemblage of numbers and graphs and metrics Telling us how popular we are
But we aren’t We are so much less We don’t even make the needle move Because we are so small So unknown So immaterial
And we want to be so large So known So material But for what? What’s wrong with being so small? So irrelevant
A dot on the space-time continuum In this vastness holding us Full of so much that doesn’t matter But is deemed consequential By you By us
But it’s not Nor are we Because we are nothing But a speck of dust
