A Special Welcome Note to New Medium Writers
Here are five tips to help you
Dear New Writers,
Welcome to Medium. I am writing this very short story with you in mind. My five-point message to you is a very simple one designed to help you navigate what could be challenging.
- Before you begin your writing journey, take the time that is required to understand all the writing and publishing guidelines. Don’t be so anxious to share your first story that you miss critical steps in creating quality work. When you omit important steps like eliminating visual images, formatting your work, and so much more, it decreases the quality of your work. And this will contribute to fewer eyes seeing it.
- Be sure to read the work of experienced writers before you get started. Their visual content will help you understand how stories need to look through proper formatting.
- Medium intends to promote positive engagement and relationships between readers and writers. It is highly inappropriate and offensive to ridicule or bully creators who write to share their perspectives and knowledge. This platform is not the place for negative interactions and rudeness. Literary collegiality and hospitality among readers and writers grow here.
- Always remember to use the Help Center as much as you need to so that your writing path becomes clarified. It is a wonderful resource that continuously facilitates what could be an overwhelming process.
- Experienced writers like me are willing to help you. Just be sure to ask.
