A Special Little POEM for Medium Michael Burg, MD
Have you met this crazy limerick fanatic?
One of my biggest joys on Medium is spending part of my day reading stories from some of my favorite Medium writers.
It’s no secret that most of us have our favorites, when it comes to those we engage with on a regular basis. We tend to radiate to those we view as like-minded, such as those “we get” and those who seem to “get us” too.
That’s how it is in life in general, and here on Medium, it’s pretty much the same way. Don’t you have a select group of writers that you engage with more than others?
Have you ever stopped to consider what about them appeals to you?
Always keep smiling, even if it hurts
With all the ups and downs I’ve experienced in my life, I learned the value of having a sense of humor a long time ago. Being able to have a smile (if not a good hearty laugh) even when things seem bleak, has helped me endure lots of pain and hardship over the years.
I guess that’s why I love people who know how to make others laugh and keep a smile on their faces. My current motto is: “Always keep smiling, even if it hurts”.
For me, being able to muster up a smile has often meant the difference between lying down and wallowing in self pity, and getting up and pushing on with my life.
The best bedside manner comes with a smile
Since I know all too well, about the benefits of laughter and wearing a smile, I think it’s especially cool how one particular Medium writer uses humor.
For some time, I’ve been following the stories that Medium writer Michael Burg, MD (AKA Medium Michael Burg) publishes here on Medium.
Many of you are already familiar with his entertaining style of writing. Those who read and follow his stories, knows that this man has an insane love for limericks; a fun style of poetry that you don’t see around that much anymore.
The great thing about his limericks, is that they make you laugh (or least chuckle a bit), but they also inform and provide provocative viewpoints.
Since I’m a big fan of the man and his writing, PLUS, I always loved writing limericks myself; I decided to write one for the doc.
To keep it interesting, I focused on a familiar topic around the Medium water cooler. Yep, you guessed it — the subject of earnings.
So without further ado, here goes…
What’s Up Doc?
Hey doc, so tell me what’s up
The Medium gods run amuck
The writers are pissed
Their earnings they miss
So tell me dear doc, what the f*ck!
