Good News for the World’s Soul
A story about the good news of an accomplished and brilliant Black student.
Tytianna Smith, a senior from Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Alabama is brilliant and her brilliance has opened doors for her beyond the norm. She was recently rewarded a total of $1.7 million in scholarships and applied to fifty institutions and was accepted by 49. Those numbers are staggering.
Out of all these schools, she decided to attend Norfolk University after she was not accepted by her first choice, Stanford University. She admitted she felt God lead her to Norfolk University and that was fine with her. Smith has great insight, thinks well beyond her years, and is a young lady of faith.
Prior to making history, she shared how she chose to attend a failing high school just to prove that a failing school does not dictate failing students. She is a living witness as such as she counts her blessings with all her offers and scholarships.
Also, she had one problem and that was, choosing between predominantly white institutions and historically Black colleges and universities. Each offered something different that she wanted. But her power of faith and relationship with God guided her decision without a doubt.
God gives what you need and sometimes what you want. Smith felt like she got what she needed at this point and time in her life. She earned an academic GPA of 4.6 and an ACT score of 29.
At her school, she was Co-Drum Major and assisted her school’s entire band to get ready for five games in the absence of the band coach. Also, as a founding member of “Warriors of Women,” an organization God put on her heart to start to support women in their fight against society’s unfair standards> She is proud to assist others while leading by example.
In conclusion, with all the bad news going on in the world, the news media should have run with this news to the mountaintop and back. The world needs some good news for change, and many young people that are lost need encouragement that they can relate to.
