A Simple Self-Care Hack

Self-Care

Self Care. We hear these words uttered more often nowadays.

Self-care is THE most important care of all as it turns out we tend to overlook our well being most often than not. How can one take care of others if they are not taking care of themselves? And yet that seems to be the case always.

So what is self-care?

In simple words, taking care of yourself, your well being, your needs, most importantly appreciating yourself for the amazing person you are.

But are you doing that?

Let me answer that question. I am not. I take care of my family day-in-day-out. But I fail to take care of the one person that helps keep my family running smoothly. And that would be me.

I don’t sit down and relax.

I don’t say thanks to myself for doing all the wonderful jobs. Heck, I don’t even see the work I’m doing on a daily basis. Even after achieving a major chunk of work before 8 am, I consider myself jobless and unproductive.

I don’t take the time to appreciate the person I am.

See, being a working stay at home mom has made me work more than I would’ve if I were going to an office and work, at the same time it makes me NOT see the amount of work I am accomplishing every day.

So all that remains is a battle to get things done and still left with a feeling that I am not doing anything.

That’s when I realized I have to start to categorize my tasks and log them in a meaningful way each day so that at the end of the day I have something to show me and get that pat on the back.

How does organizing my work come under self-care?

This way I will get to see the picture as a whole, not just pieces of it. And by looking at the whole piece of the puzzle I can actually admire the work I accomplished, leading to a happy and content me and that simply translates to self-care.

This simple technique helps me to see what exactly I did, instead of letting me fall back into ‘I had an unproductive day’ rant.

I feel the need to stay productive and feel important in my eyes. When I don’t, a negative spiral spring into action and I start to stress out which definitely is not self-care. If you are anything like me I recommend this method.

It won’t make you feel pampered, but it will make you feel satisfied and accomplished after a busy day. That is the right kind of self-care for many of us!
