You’ve been thinking about starting a newsletter.

But you’re not entirely sure where to start.

In this short article, I’m going to give you a simple step-by-step blueprint for building the perfect atomic newsletter funnel.

Let’s break it down.

The Landing Page

Everything starts with your landing page.

You need a dedicated URL to capture your subscriber's email addresses and pull them into your funnel.

In theory, every email service provider should be able to do what I’m describing in this article.

But in case you want to set things up exactly as I’ve laid them out here, I’m using Carrd to build the pages and I simply embed a ConvertKit form into the very first page.

You can buy a cheap domain with a service like NameCheap and link it to Carrd in less than 5 minutes. Or you can use the extended Carrd URL.

Use Canva to create a quick logo, write a benefit-driven headline that describes exactly what your newsletter is about, and embed your Convertkit form.

The Sparkloop Widget

This is your first monetization touch-point.

Once your subscribers hit the submit button they are presented with the opportunity to subscribe to other newsletters.

If they accept, you’ll earn a commission for every qualified referral.

Sparkloop is a must for anyone serious about growing and/or monetizing their newsletter. Not only do you get paid for referring other newsletters, but you can grow your own newsletter by:

  • Offering a commission to creators who promote you independently.
  • Teaming up with other creators and cross-promoting each other for free.

The Confirmation Page

Once a subscriber subscribes or skips the co-registration process they are directed to a confirmation page that reminds them to check their email and finish signing up.

You can skip this step by turning off double opt-in and sending the subscriber directly to the next page.

The Bridge Page

This is your second monetization touch point.

And it’s a step I see many newsletter creators skip.

Why do they skip this step?

I’m not entirely sure.

Because it’s a powerful way to introduce readers to your offer (or a relevant offer as an affiliate) at the exact moment they are taking action.

I’ve been testing many offers on my bridge page and my current test is for a community that is super relevant to my niche.

Because it has only been live for less than 48 hours as of this writing, the data is inconclusive as to how profitable this particular bridge page will be.

But it’s a highly relevant offer and seems like a good fit. Only time will tell.

If you want to stay updated on this test, subscribe to my newsletter to stay in the loop.

The Welcome Email

The next monetization touchpoint is the welcome email.

It sets the stage for what readers can expect moving forward and allows me to link to relevant offers or other content my readers might enjoy.

The footer of my newsletter provides yet another monetization opportunity by including a link to purchase a sponsorship slot and advertise to my audience.

The welcome email also links out to a piece of cornerstone content that I have hosted right here on my Medium blog.

The Pillar Content Page

This is your final monetization touch point.

Not only do you get paid for reads as a member of the Medium Partner Program, but you can use this opportunity to promote your offers or services.

You can also include affiliate links or embed YouTube videos if you’re monetized on that platform as well.

While your pillar content should focus on providing value first, you can always look for additional ways to promote relevant offers that benefit your readers.

Building an atomic newsletter funnel is an easy process.

It offers plenty of opportunities for monetization while providing immense value to your subscribers.

Can you think of an additional monetization method I may have missed?
