A short reflection about the pandemic and the future of technology
Why E.I. is key to A.I.
Since the lockdown started in March here in the UK, it is quite a different experience to come to the office daily.
Usually, this parking lot is super busy, but everything changed entirely after the end of March.
Except for our brave and committed operations team, that can’t do their job remotely, the majority of our employees are working from home, following the guidance from the government.
Thanks to technology and level of commitment from our team, we are working safely and continuing to deliver to our clients during this challenging moment.
This pandemic is demonstrating to all of us, that a flexible business, that can faster adapt to changes in market conditions (good or bad) will be the only ones to survive and strive.
This pandemic is also pushing the technology adoption faster than ever, and definitely new ways of doing business efficiently are going to rise.
The “Creative destruction” coined by the economist Schumpeter in 1942, will just be amplified during this particular moment we are all living.
I don’t have doubts that technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), will continue to replace several tasks we currently do, and that is fantastic as we have more time to focus on value-added subjects.
However, I honestly believe that me, my kids and future generations will never see technology entirely replacing Emotional Intelligence (EI).
As technology deployment accelerates, the only differentiator in the future for business will be the level of Emotional Intelligence present in their “human staff”.
No matter how intelligent a machine is, we can always do better concerning social interactions, I know that sometimes we do worst than a computer 😄, but that should be the exception and not the rule.
If we continue to embrace technology without forgetting about the importance of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership skills, such as actively listening, motivation, integrity and empathy, we can move faster to achieve our goals. We can change our society for better!
Hope I am right on this reflection; otherwise, I am afraid that we will become a society of “artificial relationships” and unfortunately fated to fail!
Stay Safe!
Carlos
