A Short Funny Story

Learning Not to Underestimate the Elderly

I once heard a funny story of a biker and his encounter with a little old lady. It happened in a town in the UK and would have been about the 1970s or ’80s at the time.

A biker was at the side of the road trying to fix his old Triumph motorcycle when an old lady came up to him.

“Do you want some help” — She said.

Looking over his shoulder, the biker could see this little old lady with blue rinse hair and her pull-along shopping buggy.

Thanks, but I’m OK” — He replied while giving a chuckle.

The old lady eagerly watched as he worked away. A minute or two later she said;

Are you sure you don’t want a hand with that?

“I’m OK, I’ll get it fixed ”— He replied.

A few moments later, the old lady being a bit frustrated by his progress, pushed in and told him;

Here, let me look at it

The biker, dumbfounded and surprised, watched as she tinkered away. She worked away on the bike for a minute or two then said to him;

“Try starting it now”

He gave it a couple of kicks and the Old Triumph fired back into life. He stood there gobsmacked. The old lady smiled and said; “ I used to build these in the factory during the war.”
