Summary

The article discusses a unique path to enlightenment through the act of smelling every species of flower on the planet, suggesting that this sensory experience awakens neurons in the brain and that women are more likely to lead humanity towards this enlightenment.

Abstract

The author, White Feather, presents a novel concept of achieving enlightenment by engaging the sense of smell with the world's diverse flora. According to the article, each flower species corresponds to a dormant neuron in the human brain, which activates upon smelling its unique fragrance. The article posits that by smelling every flower on Earth, one can awaken all corresponding neurons, leading to a state of enlightenment. Observing daily the behavior of school children passing by lilac bushes, the author notes that girls tend to stop and smell the flowers, while boys do not, suggesting a gender-based inclination towards this path of enlightenment. The article emphasizes the importance of appreciating the natural world, even if one cannot embark on a global journey to smell every flower, as it contributes to a form of 'partial enlightenment'.

Opinions

  • The author believes that there is a profound connection between our bodies and the planet, as evidenced by the neurological response to floral scents.
  • The article implies a gender disparity in the tendency to engage with nature, with girls being more inclined to appreciate flowers, potentially making them leaders in the quest for enlightenment.
  • There is an underlying criticism of boys, or perhaps of society's influence on gender behavior, for their apparent disinterest in the sensory experiences offered by nature.
  • The author promotes the idea that even localized engagement with nature can lead to a form of enlightenment, suggesting that everyone has the opportunity to pursue this path in some capacity.
  • The mention of an AI service at the end of the article indicates the author's endorsement of technology that can provide similar insights or experiences as the ones discussed in the text.

A Secret Path to Enlightenment

Using our noses

When you smell a flower a neuron in your noggin lights up. For every single flower on our wondrous planet there is a corresponding neuron in our noggin. These neurons lie dormant until the fragrance of the flower it corresponds to is smelled. The neuron then lights up. (This is how intimately connected our bodies are to this planet.)

There is a path to enlightenment that very few people know of. It is to travel the world with the intent of smelling every single flower. Once you have smelled every single specie of flower on the planet then all the corresponding neurons in your noggin are awakened and light up. And voila! You become enlightened.

Can you see how important it is to smell the flowers? I realize that not everyone can spend years traveling the planet tracking down every single specie of flower but at least everyone can smell all the flowers in their local area. Partial enlightenment is better than a dark, dormant noggin, am I right?

The sidewalks of the street I live on are traveled by many school children twice a day during the week. In the mornings the children are all walking in a westerly direction towards school. In the afternoon they are all walking in an easterly direction back to their homes.

Next to the sidewalk on the other side of the street are three gorgeous lilac bushes that have been in full bloom now for almost two weeks. I can see those lilac bushes from my office window and twice a day I can see the school children walk past those lilac bushes. I have noticed something disturbing.

I have noticed that almost every single girl that walks past the lilac bushes stops to stick their nose into a lilac blossom cluster to take a deep whiff of the heavenly scent. But I have yet to see one single boy stop to smell the lilacs. Not one! What the hell is wrong with boys?

I take this as further evidence that if humankind is ever to become enlightened it will be the females who lead the way.
