A Rainy Stroll Will Mend Your Soul

Why we should let ourselves connect with nature around us!

Life is a magnificent gift bestowed upon us all. But life, in general, is very colorful and sometimes a bit too overwhelming. It was just like any other day, a bit of everything that I felt, a feeling perhaps that just made me blue. Laying on the dry scuffled bed sheets, trying to adjust my self on the blanket and laying idly trying to remove the worries of depression, deprived of solace and the peace that I ached for.

I remember the times when I was young, a child perhaps looking at the window as the rain dropped slowly, and made a ruckus around everything it engulfed. Those moments wrapped me in awe and made me extremely joyous and happy. Rain plays a very important role in brewing life, moreover my life as it was the only thing that gave me an insurmountable amount of joy. I believe rain is perhaps one of the most precious and benign gifts mother nature has bestowed upon us. And I’m always grateful for the drops of water that refreshes the soil and the soul of all living beings.

As a child, I used to walk across the rooftop of my old home where the rainwater would just keep on splashing down from it through the stairs, as it created an artificial waterfall when the surplus water would be released from the pipes. I remember I would sit under those pipes as I enjoyed the rushing water falling on the top of my head. It was a blessing feeling, and yes I feel those moments of joy, every day perhaps when I’m in the shower.

Maria Montessori’s words provide me with the joy that every parent should bless their child with.

“Let the children be free; encourage them;

let them run outside when it is raining;

let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water;

and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew,

let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet;

let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade;

let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.”

— Maria Montessori

I would run around the house in the streets and perhaps sit under the trees. There was a large tree planted in my house. I used to take my blanket, and preferably sit under the tree, as it was the most peaceful feeling of nature around me. I believe as a child was more in tune with nature and its marvels. I was always curious as to what lied in the most subtle of things. Thus, I was able to find peace and perhaps a sense of calmness in almost everything I witnessed as a child.

“To raise a nature-bonded child is to raise a rebel, a dreamer, an innovator… someone who will walk their own verdant, winding path.” — Nicolette Sowder

I believe I was very much self-aware as a child because there are many tales that I believe that a kid experienced at a fairly young age will probably leave you surprised and astonished at how mother nature does interact with its children. We all have a significant connection with mother nature, yet most of the time we don’t even pay attention to what lies around us.

That said, It doesn’t mean that nature has forgotten us. It is calling us always, you just have to stop for a while, take a deep breath, and move towards the outside, dropping the distractions that keep you at bay from interacting with mother nature. Thus, I do just that whenever it rains. I know she is calling her child, I believe she awaits to release me of my worries.

As I walked towards the outside to look for her, she awaits in the dew that is left on the leaves. She is in the calming cold breeze brushing against my skin. She lies dormant around us, me, and you.

She waits for us to just feel her around ourselves. She will take it all away, your sorrows, your anguish, and your despair. She is our mother who loves us, who cares for all her children. Even the ones who transgress against her, who cause her harm. As a wise man once said,

“Preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.” — Carl Sagan

Thus, I believe that all of us have a responsibility to take that rainy stroll once in our lives, because if we never did then we missed something really tranquil, the peace we are always chasing on the outside, and what we yearn on the inside. Perhaps, It was always around us, and inside us. It was always calling our name. I believe we will listen more to her, as time goes by. I hope someday, all of the people realize and enjoy the gift, I was blessed with as it will become yours to accept and rejoice as well.

“In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous.” — Aristotle
