A Rabble of Bees

I couldn’t resist sharing the stars of my walks around Dunfermline, Scotland.

This story is part of a project for everyone to share their creativity using collective nouns. I’ve started with my love of nature and the English language. I might decide to go in a completely different direction next time!

Choose a collective noun as a prompt to write something. I found this comprehensive list. You’re bound to find something that sparks an idea for a story, a poem, fiction or non.

I started with a kaleidoscope of butterflies. What will you start with?

Today, I’d like to share with you some photos, videos and links to Friends of the Earth, who are running projects all over the planet.

Last year I lived in Dunfermline. Along with beautiful parks, it has several cycle paths that are lined with bee delicacies. The header image is taken on the cycle path that goes from the centre of town and comes out near the hospital and train station. I and many others walk along that path.

As you might have noticed, a rabble of bees is one of three possibilities. The other two are a swarm and a stand.

I love to take any opportunity to snap photos or film videos of bees at work. Here’s a Google compiled animation. It looks a bit frenzied.

Apologies for the arm, it was a pretty windy day!

I also made some videos which I’ve posted on my Love of Nature YouTube Channel.

Friends of the Earth have some smashing ideas and projects to improve the fate of our bees.

If you live in the UK there’s a project to make our towns and cities 10xGreener!

I’d love to see your photos of bees at work. Please feel free to post photos in the comments, appropriately captioned, of course!
