Summary

The website content discusses a proposed themed oldies podcast or radio show called "Silly Syllables," aimed at reviving the art of nonsense songs from last century, with a sample playlist provided.

Abstract

The article titled "A Pop Stand Playlist: Silly Syllables" laments the increasing obscurity of delightful pop music from the last century, noting the disposable nature of modern popular culture. It proposes the creation of a themed oldies podcast or a weekly hour on public radio to reintroduce vintage hits characterized by playful, nonsensical lyrics to a new audience. The author, lacking the technical know-how, calls for volunteers to help realize this vision. A sample playlist is included, featuring tracks like "Inka Dinka Doo" by Jimmy Durante and "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by A Taste of Honey, among others, to exemplify the kind of content that would be showcased in the "Silly Syllables" pod.

Opinions

  • The author believes that the charm of last century's pop music is being forgotten and deserves to be preserved and celebrated.
  • There is an expressed desire for a platform that can introduce younger generations to the joy of vintage music with nonsensical lyrics.
  • The author acknowledges a personal lack of expertise in making the podcast a reality, hence the call for volunteers.
  • The article suggests that the current popular culture lacks the longevity and significance of past eras' music.
  • By inviting readers to contribute to the playlist, the author implies that the list is not exhaustive and that there is a wealth of songs that fit the theme.

So much of the delightful pop music from last century is slipping into obscurity. Our popular culture gets more disposable by the day.

I have this vision of a themed oldies podcast or weekly hour on public radio that would introduce vintage hits and oddities to a new audience.

I have the vision, just not the know how.

Anybody want to volunteer to help me make this a reality?

Here’s a sample playlist for one installment — I have scores — that includes more than a dozen recordings ideal that boast lyrics that are just playful nonsense. I call this pod “Silly Syllables.”
