A Picture Story of Nature Showing Us Who’s Boss

A recent beach trip turned into a jaw-dropping experience

Pre-storm: Endless sand @ Venice Beach in Half Moon Bay, California. Picture provided by Author.

Ever since I’ve been on a career break, I’ve been enjoying my solo mid-week trips to the beach. Despite the fact that I can’t swim, I’m a total water baby, and nothing seems to calm my soul as much as the ocean does. The weather here in Northern California — the Bay Area specifically — has been pretty great too, and I’ve had near-perfect experiences each time.

Barring the storm we had 2 weeks ago when I couldn’t head over.

When I went back last week, though, I was blown away by how much it had changed in one weekend!

The beach seemed to have been divided into different sections, with dunes, rivulets and streams of flowing water where there were none before. The birds seemed to love their private little pool.

Post storm: The beach has a mini-river flowing right through it, with dunes on either side. Picture provided by Author.

What was once a flat beach with the ocean on one side:

Pre-storm: Look Birdies, there’s the ocean. Picture provided by Author.

Now suddenly had a river cutting right through!

Post storm: Uhm, what? Picture provided by Author.
Post storm: The beach has split, or so it seems. Picture provided by Author.

This is the first time I’ve witnessed something as cool as this, even though I’ve lived by the water pretty much my whole life. I took my time to revel in the beauty and power of Mother Nature and soak in all the changes around me. Pictures don’t do justice to how stark it really was.

I can’t wait to go back next week and see how the place continues to evolve!
