Don’t feel bad for me.

I’m new to writing, and I’m new to Medium. I’ve tempered my expectations and haven’t quit my day job to pursue writing. If I had, then the tone of this article would be very different and I’d probably be crying instead of laughing.

Instead, I want you to celebrate with me! This is a lesson in celebrating the little things. The very little things.

When I first saw this in my email, I chuckled.

Then I tried to rationalize it. $0.01 USD is the equivalent of $0.0125 CAD … which is still a penny. And pennies are no longer even in circulation in Canada, which makes this all the more amusing, at least in my head.

Medium, if you’re going to pay me crumbs, thanks for at least making it an enjoyable, funny crumb. Singular.

It also means that in about a month’s time, I can write a post titled, “Here’s What I’ve Learned from Publishing 30 Articles on Medium” and my progress, as measured by the money, will be astronomical.

It won’t even matter if I’m only at $1.00 in the Medium Partner Program. I could write that catchy headline folks are always talking about — “Here’s How I Increased My Earnings on Medium by 100-Fold”!

Nowhere to go but up, my friends.

Almost. I guess I could drop down to $0.00 USD… but I think I can set the bar a tad higher than nothing.

And to those that like to talk about celebrating the little things while agonizing about only getting 100 views? Look at me — this is walking the talk.
