These sculptures are strategically placed to assist visitors in orienting themselves within the expansive hospital grounds. The initiative, praised by the author, is part of a new publication by Mary Chang Story Writer and features contributions from various six-word story writers, including Susan Alison, who captured the lion photograph.

This ‘Lion With An Injured Paw’ stands outside the main entrance to my local hospital. It’s a wonderful piece!

I looked it up when I got home and discovered that outside the other end of the hospital I could have found ‘Three Monkeys’ — one with a cast on its leg, another with a bandaged arm, and one with a sore head.

Apparently, there are more of these life-size bronze animals to come.

Collectively, they are known as ‘Patient Patients’. They are to welcome people to the hospital and will become key focus points for finding the way around what is a very large site.

The animals to come are: ‘Prairie Dog With An Injured Neck’, ‘Bear With A Sore Back’ and ‘Elephant With A Lump In His Trunk’.

I think it’s an inspired endeavour to make the hospital more ‘friendly’ and welcoming.
