A.P. Kumar — An Introduction

My name is A.P. Kumar. I write stories, musings, quotes and poems inspired by my travels across more than twenty countries (and hopefully counting!). It’s a pleasure to introduce myself to Medium. This is my story.

While growing up in New Delhi, I counted myself in the minuscule fraction of the Indian population that craved for an intrepid way of life. Literature and fiction was the core of our household as my father is a writer, poet and playwright. Having evolved in that environment, I started writing at an early age and haven’t stopped since. I spent a good part of my childhood among actors, theatre directors, writers and musicians. I was clear that i would choose a career in the Arts. But when I was at the crossroads of choosing what to do with my life, I found myself thoroughly puzzled. Nudged by peers, I made a half-hearted attempt at getting into Engineering colleges with a whole-hearted belief that I would not make it. I was right.

Who knew Fashion would be my calling. I graduated from the most prestigious Fashion institute in the country and built a career in this alluring field. From then on it was the most vigorous, ever-changing, forever-faster experience. I had a good run for ten years. Travelled a LOT. Met various iconic personalities who inspired me in their own ways.

One instance that i can particularly recall was meeting Usain Bolt who was the brand ambassador of the company I worked for in Bangalore, the city where i reside now. He made achieving a great feat seem so effortless that it restored my faith in the phrase “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life!”. Every experience reassured me that nothing beats the fire of true passion.

All through this journey, I never stopped writing. There was inspiration everywhere i looked. Now, I write full time to incite ideas, brew conversation and awaken thoughts in the hope that i can turn an inkling in the reader into certainty. Thanks to life, I will never run out of stories!

Here are some of my recent stories on Medium.
