A New American Dream: Get The F*ck Out
In 90s, winning the Green Card was a dream of many. Today about 9 million Americans live abroad. Why so many are leaving?

In the 1990s, I recall many Europeans flocking to America in search of a better life or the green card lottery. That meant you had a chance to realize the American Dream.
The American dream used to be about having a house, a car, and the end of financial worries. However, for many Americans today, the dream has changed.
For many, the new American dream is about leaving the United States.
There are a number of factors driving this trend. First and foremost is the state of the economy. The pandemic recession has hit American families hard, and many are struggling to make ends meet.
In addition, there is a growing sense of discontent with the political system. Americans are increasingly disillusioned with the government’s ability to solve problems and create opportunity.
Safety plays a big factor of many Americans desiring to move out. I don’t blame them, who want to see their child die in school or be afraid to go grocery shopping.
That is insane.
Finally, there is a growing desire for a simpler lifestyle. More and more Americans are opting for a more minimalist lifestyle in which they focus on experiences rather than material possessions.
When all of these concerns are combined, you end up with less freedom and a lower quality of life.
Let’s dig deeper into that.
Safety and mass shootings
The high number of mass shootings in the United States is also a factor driving people to leave the country. This year, there were over 230 mass shootings in the United States.
People are already talking about it on social media, and this is even covered in Medium.
The crisis has grown in the public eye, with even celebrities chiming in. But we’ve learned that nothing will change as a result of the NRA’s lobbying and the right-wing sick mentality: profits come before people’s lives.
The US has a far higher rate of gun violence than any other country. Although there were 46 mass shootings in Europe over the past 50 years, there were 230 mass shootings in the United States this year alone.
Do you see the striking difference?
And it’s not just mass shootings. There is a general sense of insecurity in the United States that is driving people away.
The political situation
The current political situation in the United States is also a factor driving people to leave. The Trump administration has been characterized by division and chaos, and many Americans are tired of the constant drama.
In addition, the administration’s policies have been harmful to many groups of people, including immigrants, minorities, and the LGBTQ community. Only in the US due to the Covid 19 pandemic over million people died.
The Biden administration is growing weaker and it may loose in midterms. Wellness Xplora just published and article Is Joe Biden Making Donald Trump Look Like A Better President?
I thought at first, it a satire or a joke but she presents good arguments.
It doesn’t matter anymore it is right or left, the democracy together with politics died in the US.
It doeen’t exist!
I told everyone in the United States that it was like a third-world country when I departed after two decades of living there as a citizen. People mocked me.
But America is in worse shape than I tought it could end up. According to umair haque, America got a status of a fourth world country:
Everyone knows how dysfunctional America is. There are simply no systems that really work at all in either country. Americans, meanwhile, are bankrupted perpetually by unpayable debt, which is just a way, painfully transparent at this point, to transfer wealth forever upwards.
And the rest is heading backwards.
These factors have made many Americans feel unwelcome in their own country.
The cost of living
The high cost of living in the United States is also driving people away. Housing costs are skyrocketing, and wages are not keeping up.
I and my husband are nurses and we needed 3 jobs to afford basics.
Basics, not lavish lifestyle.
Imagine you work a stressful job with no vacations simply to make ends meet.
You may never be able to retire, and you may have to work until the day you die. This isn’t a dream existence for me, let alone so-called American dream.
In addition, the cost of healthcare became profitcare, and many Americans are struggling to pay for basic insurance.
All of these factors are making it difficult for Americans to maintain a good standard of living.
The desire for a simpler lifestyle
Finally, many Americans are leaving the United States because they desire a simpler lifestyle. They want to live in a place where they can focus on experiences rather than material possessions.
They want to live in a place where they can slow down and enjoy life.
And for many like 99%, that place is not the United States.
I’ve written a few articles about my simple lifestyle in Spain. In Spain, we prioritize life experiences rather than consumerism:

The life here is simple but fulfilling, I found the best place to reflect my values: minimalism, sustainability, free play for children, safety, and affordability.
Conclusion
There are a number of reasons why the new American dream is about leaving the United States. The economy, the political situation, and the cost of living are all making it difficult for Americans to maintain a good standard of living.
In addition, many Americans are tired of the constant drama and division that characterized the Trump and Biden administration.
And finally, more and more Americans are opting for a more minimalist lifestyle in which they focus on experiences rather than material possessions. Whatever the reasons, there is no doubt that the new American dream is about leaving the United States.
