A Must-See Movie List from an Expert.

10 astonishing masterpieces.

Photo by mahdi chaghari on Unsplash

As a professional athlete, you have a lot of free time, but often, you are exhausted from practice or multiple practices that day.

Therefore, productive tasks like studying or working are not an option. However, movies are the go-to.

I would not call myself an expert, but I come very close to that.

That’s why I created a list of 10 movies.

I included movies from different genres. Therefore, everyone could find theirs to watch.

Some movies on this list are classics and well-known. However, when I talk to people, I’m often surprised that they have missed some of these true masterpieces.

Movie number 1 — “Gladiator”

I think you can’t go wrong with this one. “Gladiator” is a mix of history combined with an incredible life story of Maximus Decimus Meridius. It is a true masterpiece showcasing human nature and the power an individual can have.

Movie number 2 — “The Hunger Games” (First chapter)

In my opinion, The Hunger Games is the best fiction movie ever created. The storyline is incredible, and every second of the movie, you are engaged and curious — what will happen next? There’s not even one part filled with boredom. Of course, “The Hunger Games” is more than just one movie. However, no other part can beat the first movie of the series. The same applies to hundreds of other movies.

Movie number 3 — “The Maze Runner” (First chapter)

This movie gave me similar vibes to “The Hunger Games.” The story is unique, fresh, and full of anticipation. Even the theme is in the same direction — to fight the system and overcome challenges. Yet, it is so different from the Hunger Games and unique in its own way. I highly recommend watching this movie, as I think it is underrated and hasn’t received the recognition it deserves.

Movie number 4 — “Notebook”

I started with three very violent movies, all built around strong individuals. However, the 4th movie is the best love story ever documented in a film. I never cry during or after movies. It never gets to me that deeply. Back in my mind, I know it is just a movie. However, I have to admit that this one moved me.

Movie number 5 — “Speed”

“Speed” is a thrilling action film that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The main actors were Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Their main job was to drive the bus at a certain speed, and if it went any slower, a bomb would explode. No more spoiling. Go and watch it!

Movie number 6 — “Free Solo”

This movie was something else. Every second felt like I’m holding my breath. Free Solo is a documentary capturing Alex Honnold climbing the wall of his life — his dream. But the catch is free solo means climbing without any equipment — no ropes, no safety, no nothing. Did he survive? I won’t tell you.

Movie number 7 — “The Pianist”

This one might be hard to swallow, and it is one of the heaviest movies out there. However, it gives a real picture of the genocide as well as shows how it was being a Jew during the world war. I think no matter how hard it is to watch, everybody should.

After all, I am a basketball player. So, I have no choice but to put this on the list. Here you go — the best basketball movie of all time — Coach Carter. Even if you know nothing about basketball, you still should watch it.

Movie number 9 — “The Impossible”

“The Impossible is another documentary capturing a family in the middle of a tsunami. They all get separated, and the film shows each one’s journey when they look straight in the eyes of death.

Movie number 10 — “Eight Below”

I want to close my list with an incredible movie about sled dogs, which shows the powerful connection between humans and their best friends- dogs.
