CAT | FELINE | TRAVEL
A Moroccan Cat Named Frank
He just came out of nowhere.

We have this weird thing that happens while we travel. It started back in 2018 when we were housesitting in Nicaragua. Then, a small stray kitten wandered into our house, and we had no idea until it loudly announced itself from the hallway. Ever since then, cats have been a huge part of our traveling experience.
Frank came to us near the Sahara desert in Morocco in June of 2020 where we were staying with a friend near the small desert town of Rissani.
We had only just arrived a couple of hours earlier. We were sitting in the back of our new home, chatting with our friend and host, Hassan, when all of a sudden this orange cat just sauntered out of nowhere and jumped up onto the table.
Hassan told us that he had never seen the cat before.
Within a few minutes, we knew that this cat was there to stay. We could tell by his easy demeanor and his comfort with us all. Thankfully Hassan was happy to have him, as he had just lost his dog a few days earlier.
Right away I named him Frank.
“How do you know his name is Frank?” Hassan asked.
“He told me so,” I said, matter-of-factly.

With the heat of the day reaching 45C (113F) most days, we would find ourselves hanging out behind the hotel and lounging in the shade. Even then it was stifling hot, but at least the crazy desert sun wasn’t pounding down on us.
Frank usually wasn’t too far away, and we would snuggle him and hang out with him as much as we could.

We stayed in Rissani for 5 weeks altogether and Frank was there the whole time. We have kept in touch with our host Hassan, and as far as we know, Frank has remained at his hotel and has become a part of the landscape.
We never know where these cats come from, or why they find us. But we love all of them and we don’t mind it one bit!
This is an art piece that Chris drew for our patrons on Patreon that features Frank at the beach with a hot pot of Moroccan tea!
