A Morning Prayer
The One That Doesn’t Say Good Morning
“Never wait for a perfect moment; just take a moment, and make it perfect. Good morning.” (Zoey Sayward)
I am up this morning with the sun showering my face. My body’s telling me,“ Yes, I have enough sleep! That doesn’t happen often.” With my heart sings the song Morning Has Broken. With all within its place and space.
I’ve learned to repeat that experience as often as I wanted. As my morning prayer is not asking for a good morning. Rather…
Please bless me with the courage to choose a good morning rather than wait for a good morning.
I grew up being taught that God punishes us. God takes control over our lives.
My relationship with God and with the Universe hasn’t been like that. I am thankful for the challenges as I am grateful for the joy. I believe that when challenges happen, we are encouraged to exercise our control in our lives. When joy happens, we are reminded of how it feels when we do so wisely.
I learned to pray that asks for a blessing and courage to exercise choice, the control, the gift of life that I am given.
The way I look at it: there is no way God or the Universe punishes. They are too beautiful to do so. Maybe, just maybe, humans think of it that way because of our limitations?
Is it possible that we miss the most incredible gift: that we are given abundant choices in the course of our limitations?
Pray for the gift to choose. I think that’s about the only prayer that will give us the serenity of life.
Kris Bedenian “That negative voice is helpful in locating the problems, but as far as fixing them, that voice will trap us every time.” I smiled reading this sentence.
