A Miracle From Above For Easter
How a miraculous event helped me heal from loss.
The kitten was dirty and sitting by himself on the lane close to my husband’s home. On this hot, sweltering day, he picked up the kitten, cleaned him off, and fed him. He named the homeless cat Simba. It was a big orange and white friendly feline, who loved back rubs and attention.
I met Simba a few years later after finding my husband and fell in love with the cat, too. He was always so patient and gentle. We took Simba to parks sometimes on a leash, and he was equally comfortable enjoying evenings with our friends. As the years passed, Simba experienced our highs and lows and he was there to calm me down after a disappointing job interview or later, a bad day at work.
It must have been in his 15th year when I found Simba sitting quietly in the closet. He was coughing, wouldn’t eat, and appeared uncomfortable. Although Simba had never been sick in his entire life, I knew that this time it was different.
We took him to the vet but the doctor said nothing could be done. It could be a few days or a month before the cat would die because of kidney disease. A few days later, Simba looked worst and we agreed that suffering was not an option for the cat.
I bundled the cat up and we sadly brought him over to the vet to be euthanized. After saying our goodbyes, we reluctantly left him at the vet where the doctor would give him the lethal shot.
As we sat in silence in our car, it was hard to contain my grief and I let out my cries of sorrow. My husband was also upset because he had lost his friend, who had been with us through good and bad times. Anyone who has ever owned a pet will understand our emotions. It’s like losing a child and the grief is uncontainable. On this night, I felt the world crashing down on me and that life would never be the same without Simba.
I looked at my husband, who was stoic, silent, and staring out the window. A few minutes after leaving the building, my husband let out a comment that to this day astounds me, “I just saw Simba’s spirit leave the building!” He described seeing a flash of light zipping out from the vet’s office and streak upwards and disappear into the night sky. I was happy and excited for us. At the same time, I was feeling left out and regretted not seeing this heavenly wonder.
Eventually, after calming down, he started the car, and we drove home. For many months afterward, I was in the throes of despair. Sometimes, I purposely would hide any signs of sadness from my husband and cry alone until my eyes were puffy and red.
This depression carried on until the dark, rainy November months lead into Spring. I awoke one morning, and I sat alone in the living room, contemplating our departed cat. I focused my gaze on Simba’s urn, which was on a shelf near a corner. Then, to my bewilderment, a light shone brightly on the ceiling above the urn and stayed there for a few minutes before it vanished.
Later that same morning, my husband told me later, he looked up into the ceiling from his bed and saw a tunnel of light appear. It opened up into a portal. This image stayed there for a few minutes when it disappeared.
If you have ever read books about the spiritual experience, many people have described seeing a tunnel of light as part of a near-death experience.
After sharing our experiences, I was convinced that the images were messages from our beloved cat that he was in heaven, and things were good. For me, the tunnel of light is actually a tunnel of love!
What was most amazing to me is that these heavenly lights appeared on a holy day, Good Friday! — on the Easter long weekend!
My heart began to heal rapidly after these miraculous occurrences. In time, we adopted 2 rescue kittens and moved into a bigger place. It was as though Simba had sent us divine messages that it was time for both of us to move on, and carry on with our lives. He would be waiting for us when the time came for us to meet again.
If you’ve just lost your pet, don’t be sad. There is a place in heaven for your pets, too.
