A Mini Zine: Creating a Poem from Old Song Sheets

With song titles like these, the poem wrote itself.

I made a little book, an ode to a lover.

For a queen that stole my heart.

This poem is made by chopping up and curating song titles from random music sheets a local university was throwing away.

It goes like this…

“Oh first thou. Of all the birds that I do know, a pretty duck there was…

Sweet love doth her face.”

No, I don’t know what ‘doth’ means, either.

But her face is pretty and her favourite animals are ducks, so it was a fitting start.

“Bye gal.

When from my love I looked for love. Awake, sweet love.

Sweet, stay awhile.

Fine knacks for ladies… lilies.”

You can use your imagination here for that last reference. Everyone loves flowers.

“Thou wilt. Mad, ooh. A low.

Now, O now, I needs must part. Flow not so fast, ye fountains.”

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

“№1. Sweet love. English rose.”

She is English, so can’t fault the accuracy here.

And there you have it. A sweet little found poem, made completely from titles of songs from an era I could not name.

Thanks for reading, you’re the bee’s knees.
