A Message from Your Friendly Neighborhood Editor of “Logan’s Corner”

Your voice deserves to be heard

Meet the newest proud editor to join the Queerly Trans team!

I am going to be editing submissions to our weekly Logan’s Corner writing prompts.

Why does Logan’s Corner exist?

Stories are powerful things. They aren’t just entertaining. They can save lives. They can shine rays of glittery hope into closets.

I didn’t discover that I was a trans man until I was 35 years old. I didn’t see this in myself because I had never read a story quite like mine. This delay could easily have cost me my life a long time ago, when I really needed to know that I was not alone.

The absence of stories like mine has cost me a lot. I want to make sure that others who need to see themselves in our stories can find a wide variety of them. I want as many queer trans people as possible to know that they are not alone.

Thanks to the way algorithms often work, when I search for answers to common questions of queer trans existence, I find that people outside of our community often dominate our narratives and tell our stories for us.

I want to do my part in drowning out those algorithms with authentic queer and trans experiences. I want to make our stories as easy as possible to find for the people who need to read them.

I am offering this free service of editing and marketing because I want to help my people to take back our narrative.

How do we publish with “Logan’s Corner” in Queerly Trans?

Please start by thoroughly reading this article to learn the formatting requirements for publication in Queerly Trans. Following the directions will allow KP_the_writer to add you as a writer. Once you’ve been added, you can submit your writing to me by clicking on the three dots at the top right of your draft. Then, click “add to publication”, after adding the appropriate tags (see below).

Please read that article carefully. These guidelines exist to help you understand our expectations of you as a writer.

Here are some important highlights:

  1. We can only publish drafts. I’m still happy to link to your already published work to promote your writing in my writing prompts though!
  2. Please use all five tags. This is to ensure that as many people read you as possible.
  3. To ensure that I receive your draft for publication, the first tag must be “transgender” (as per the Queerly Trans guidelines). One other tag must be “gender” (to allocate your article to Logan’s Corner). The other three tags can be any of your choice that are appropriate. Some good possibilities include LGBTQ, writing, gender equality, mental health, fiction, and creative non-fiction (click here for more).
  4. We cannot promote any writings containing transphobia, homophobia, racism, xenophobia, sexism, hate speech, etc... We expect you to carefully examine your internalized transphobia and queerphobia before submitting your work to us. Please note Queerly Trans holds a hard line against gate-keeping.
  5. I do not gatekeep who can publish with us. If you feel that you are qualified to speak to the Queerly Trans life experience, I am excited to read what you have to offer! I always make an effort to provide options in my writing prompts that allow closeted or gender questioning writers to share their equally valid Queerly Trans stories. You are always welcome here.
  6. We ask that writers please follow and subscribe to Queerly Trans. We strongly encourage you to read other Queerly Trans posts and to give feedback to our other writers as a supportive member of our community.
  7. As your editor, I will never change your voice. When in doubt, I will leave you a private note with suggestions, allowing you to make any final changes yourself. I reserve the right to remove portions of writing that I believe are harmful to our community, but will let you know in a private note what has been removed, so that you can decide if you prefer to replace it and self publish.

“Logan, I submitted a draft to you 10 minutes ago! Why are you taking so gosh darn long to publish me?”

I know it’s nerve-racking to wait for your writing to get published.

It’s incredibly vulnerable to formally submit work and I want to honor that by editing/responding to your submission as quickly as possible.

Due to the volume of projects that we are editing, we ask that you please allow up to 48 hours for a response.

If I haven’t responded after 48 hours, please feel free to reach out to us by email at [email protected]. I will check this email once each day.

I also want to honor each writer by ensuring that your post is independently featured at Logan’s Corner to maximize views and give me time to promote your work to the best of my ability.

I publish on a first-come, first-served basis, favoring those who are quick to finish final edits. If there is a queue, I will let you know in a private message what number you are in line. Check your email or draft frequently to get communications from me.

“Is it okay for me to publish my response to your prompt in another publication?”

Of course! We just ask that folx who self publish or publish in another publication provide a link to the original writing prompt that inspired the new post. In turn, I am happy to link your response to my original writing prompt to drive traffic to your work, even if you do not publish with Queerly Trans.

We also request that you consider reading and commenting on the posts of others who responded to our writing prompts to show support for the community.

If you want me to run over and read your work, please remember to tag me by including an @ sign with “logansilkwood” somewhere in your writing.
