Summary

The Age of Empathy (AoE) has announced its second writing prompt, "A Meaningful End," inviting writers to reflect on what they need to accomplish by year-end or to celebrate their 2020 achievements, with submissions open from November 15th to November 30th, 2020.

Abstract

The AoE community is moving forward with its second writing prompt, titled "A Meaningful End," which encourages contributors to consider the actions they need to take to make the current year significant or to acknowledge the accomplishments they are most proud of from 2020. The prompt is an invitation to focus on the present and recognize personal achievements without waiting for a fresh start in the new year. The submission period is from November 15th to November 30th, 2020, and writers are asked to include the prompt number and theme in their subtitle and use the tag "AoE Prompt." The community expresses gratitude to those who participated in the first prompt and congratulates the winners, emphasizing the value of diverse perspectives and the joy of reading about them.

Opinions

  • The AoE team values the contributions of its community members, expressing gratitude for their participation and the quality of their writing.
  • There is an emphasis on the present moment as an opportune time for meaningful action and self-recognition, rather than waiting for the new year.
  • The prompt encourages self-reflection on unfinished tasks, unstarted endeavors, and celebrating successes, suggesting that every individual's meaningful end is personal and valid.
  • The AoE team is excited about the potential of the new prompt to inspire writing and action, and they express anticipation for the upcoming submissions.
  • The community is reminded that the prompt is not just about writing but also about taking action or simply giving oneself credit, reinforcing the importance of self-acknowledgment.

Hi everyone! We hope this meets you well, and you are wearing a smile as wide as the horizon.

First, we’d like to thank everyone who contributed a fabulous essay, fiction, or poem to AoE’s first prompt! Thank you!

You are making this happen, and we are super grateful. We hope you enjoyed reflecting as much as we enjoyed reading about your unique perspectives on the prompt.

A huge congratulations to Kim McKinney, Tracy Stengel, and Lucy The Eggcademic (she/her) for taking home the first AoE prompt wins! Incredible and thought-provoking writing!

We can’t believe the time has come for our second prompt!

As this year comes to an end, we start thinking of the new year and the fresh start it holds. We direct our thoughts into new hopes and look forward to opportunity.

However, that’s not what this prompt is about. Instead, let’s explore closing off this year by finishing what we started, reflecting on what we haven’t started at all, or celebrating our successes.

As long as I am breathing, in my eyes, I am just beginning. — Criss Jami, Killosophy

Thinking about the present is valuable as we don’t have to wait to take meaningful action — we don’t have to wait to be proud of ourselves, and each other. The time is now.

I hope this prompt inspires us to write, and take action, or do absolutely nothing, but simply give ourselves some credit. You deserve it.
