A Maple Tree Hollow Holds Peonies in a Natural Vase
Spring Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Nature Art”
Pink peonies adorn an aging tree.
A beautiful peony plant grows in our backyard and gives us a gift of large, pink blossoms every year. At least forty flowers open with delight, brightening our lives for about two weeks each spring.
The gorgeous, full flowers are so heavy that some of them fall to the ground, especially when rain and high winds push them down. This morning I found three peonies in the dirt after a night of strong, gusty wind. I decided to bring the flowers inside so we could enjoy them before they died.
As I walked toward the house, I passed our aging maple tree that has a trunk hollow — a hole that formed naturally in the trunk. The tree has been losing its limbs and branches for the past several years and is nearing the end of its life.
I was suddenly inspired to transform the tree hollow into a natural vase, and arranged the peonies as you see in my photo. Never before have I seen the old tree looking more lovely and cheerful!
