He walked into the church, looking down each aisle.

Seeing friends from many years past, and family that never called.

The small church was full. Everyone dressed so nicely His heart almost burst with pride.

They spoke many words. Strange words he’d never heard before Words like “love” “friend” “gentleman” They called him intelligent, hard-working, great company; a great dad, husband and father, someone to look up to, someone they could talk to. Someone they were proud of. They spoke of missing his smile, his jokes, his kindness.

I was overwhelmed, how come I never knew?

Too soon, the service was over, it was time to leave. They stood back, respectfully. Allowing him to lead the way, before following slowly with bowed heads. A procession quiet in black.

Was this all for me?”

A day so beautiful, Loved ones all together. No-one rushing away No name calling, no arguments.

Friends together laughing with the family he never saw. He wished the day would go on forever, it was the happiest day of his life.

“I attended my funeral today, and died a happy man.”
