A Magical Mystery Tour Gives Us a Bigger Picture
Changing our view of Christ may change our perspective of others
Here is your invitation to go on, as the Beatles titled, A Magical Mystery Tour. Let me take my readers on a journey, not through Strawberry Fields Forever or in a Yellow Submarine, though you may see yourself in a sky with diamonds, which may seem magical. In the end, the mystery is revealed.
Paul wrote in the book of Ephesians:
God, who created everything, wanted me to help everyone understand the mysterious plan that had always been hidden in his mind. Then God would use the church to show the powers and authorities in the spiritual world that he has many different kinds of wisdom. (Ephesians 3:9–10, CEB)
Take time to envision these things; it will be a breathtaking image of Christ. Take a big breath, and let’s go.
By the peace of the Holy Spirit, be aware of your surroundings, your room, home, yard, and neighborhood. Visualize your town, city, and your country. As you travel further, see rivers, foliage, caves, hill, and mountains.
Can you see the entire world? See the blue of the oceans, the peaks of the Alps, the smoke rising from volcanos, the cloud formations, and the blackness of outer space with the sun, moon, and planets. Gravity no longer has sway over your body.
Look past our solar system to other galaxies. Our precious planet is not even visible, yet it’s there. We know because we are sitting on it with our minds on a beautiful journey.
Now can you see a God who created it all?
Visualize this Creator, more significant than all the Universe. Yet, see God become flesh and blood to our tiny planet, birthed by one small woman, to breathe, cry, perform miracles, and die all out of His vast love for us.
Now if He could do this, can you imagine what His sacrifice did? Was His sacrifice negligible? The path may be broad and the gate narrow, but do we believe that God in the flesh can break open any gate? Did God not put all, excluding Himself, in subjection to Christ?
Do we keep Jesus small — just a little man that lived in a short space of time, or do we see Him as timeless?
Do we see only a puddle of blood spilled on the ground, or do we see the Universally-Sized Savior, Creator, pouring out His blood through the whole expanse?
Do we keep Jesus neatly boxed in the virgin birth and resurrection, or do we see Him as eternal, omnipresent, and omniscient?
In the beginning, was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. From the very beginning, the Word was with God. And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created received its life from him, and his life gave light to everyone. The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out. (John 1:1–5, CEB)
Our journey is not imaginary but actual if you believe John 1:1–5. If your mind cannot comprehend this, earnestly seek the Lord. Ask for more of the Holy Spirit daily. Let Him speak to your heart and give you spiritual eyes to see.
His colossal love can not be measured, squelched, or extinguished. Let God change your perspective of Jesus, and in so doing, He will change your perspective of others.
As we see through God’s eyes, we may ask ourselves these questions:
Did the same God who created me also create the other guy? Does God’s love change? Could God love a person like (fill in the blank) as much as He loves me? God’s love is constant and unchanging. Jesus was and is the Word. He was in the beginning. The Word was not only with God but was truly God.
What can change? Our opinion can assuredly change.
Key to unlock the mystery:
I’m completing it with a secret (mystery) that has been hidden for ages and generations but which has now been revealed to his holy people. (Colossians 1:26, CEB)
The mystery is solved when we realize that the whole world is included in God’s grace. Am I so pious to think that Jesus died only for certain people like me?
I pray not!
When we view Jesus differently, we will view others differently also.
